"Ivan are you really going to be okay?" asked Fred in fear as he watched his best friend force his way through the thick, wet, gloomy mud. "Fred it's cold." Replied Ivan shivering as his eyes began to water "Just get up it's mud not quick sand Ivan!" Yelled Darren providing unnecessary comments that no one needed nor wanted to hear but regardless Ivan nodded at Darren's words while Fred however gave him a dirty look but all Darren did in response to that was roll his eyes. "Do you think Ivan would be okay?" Elie asked John who just looked up into the sky smiling as if there was no war going on "They will be fine for now but we best get him out." Replied John seriously looking towards Ivan as everyone except Darren and Harry went over to try and pull Ivan out of the mud. "It's not going to work why waste your time?" questioned Darren hoping to walk off and leave Ivan to rot but no one listened to him as no one else had that intention except Darren as he stood there with his arms crossed in anger. "Oh lookie I just found a whole family of mice in the mud!" Screamed Harry with a big smirk on his face as he began scratching all over his body as the others managed to pull Ivan out. "Phew thanks boys." muttered Ivan as Fred hugged him tightly "Break it up Sargent Mike won't tolerate this so move it!" Yelled Darren loudly as they all stepped carefully across the thin planks that lead to a huge ditch underground.
One by one they walked down seeing people from all over the world all fighting for the allies it was amazing but it was harder to find the British part but they got there in the end there was sacks stacked on top of each other leading out of the trench as well as a place to place a gun. Sargent Mike handed each of the boys a rag and a bottle of water "Use it wisely." He told them firmly as he went back to his office as the boys stood outside counting the layers of their front looks like they were near the back chances of them getting shot was less likely unless they went up and over they all saw but the only way to advance forward was to use the trench to get around. The trench was their new home it had no running water and no baths not even freshly baked bread or Sweet Jams like what Ms Shortcake sold but there was a lot of rotten planks of wood, mud and a big pit dug in the ground there was four in total only one had a plank with a hole carved into it. "What is that?" Asked Fred pointing to the pit with the plank with the hole in it. "It's the toilet." Said Darren "Sargent Mike told me so he likes me more than any of you lot." He added looking proud of himself as no one responded as they didn't want to start a fight during a fight war was far more serious than if he had jam in his loaf and it didn't matter instead it was life and death.
"Mmm~ who needs food anyway I am cooking." Smirked Harry who was sitting by the fire he made with a small pan placing something into it that looked very tiny no one knew what Harry was frying so they all rushed over to discover Harry was frying lice he was infested with them all over his body was different colors of fleas and lice and by his foot was an gigantic fully grown rat with three babies cuddling under it's fur they too were also infested with lice and fleas. "Look Harry don't come anywhere near me or I will kill you!" Snapped Darren glaring at Harry in disgust as harry laughed his curly hair swayed in the wind as he smiled at Darren and nodded as everyone kept their distance from Harry moving onto the other side.
"Ight lads the Germans will be firing soon Elie and John I need you to stay in the trench and hand the others supplies Ivan and Fred you will have to signal to the other groups when everything in clear Darren and Harry you will be going up and over the trench but on my count if not you may get shop I just want to to throw this bomb and then get back in you all hear me?" Declared Sargent Mike he was not messing around at all as he waited for a response. "Yes sir!" they boys all said in unison except Harry who nodded attempting to steal the Sargent's hat but the Sargent moved out of the way "Harry grow up-" muttered the Sargent bored of Harry's ridiculous pranks.
They all picked up their guns or took their position to get ready for the first attack.
