Ethnic minorities' mental health is very complex. It all starts off with  their situation and how their life is from is their parents abusive to neglectful or are they being bullied or have they’ve been sexually assaulted or even are they very poor and live in a terrible neighborhood such as a ghetto neighborhood and they’ve witness they’re friend dying from a shooting again it all depends on that individual's situation. However statistics have shown that Indigenous people in Canada have twice higher rates of suicide than any other citizen in Canada and Indigenous women attempts on suicide are a lot more frequent than of Indigenous men. The average Canadian attempt for suicide is about 4% women and 2% men while the average Indigenous attempt for suicide is 19% women and 13% men ( from 2008 ).
“Rates of completed suicides, however, are higher among males. And young adults ages 15 to 24 represent the age group with the highest rate of suicides. Completed suicides among First Nation young adults is five to seven times the Canadian average for the same age group.” stated by Saman Khan.
When it comes to Depression  again, the First Nations average for depression is twice higher than any Canadian. 16% of Indigenous adults that are living on the reserve have experienced serious depression contrast to 8% of Canadians who have experienced depression. Those Indigenous people who've experienced serious depression 26% of them said their depression affects their life, contrast to 16% of Canadians saying the same thing ( from 1997 survey ).  But there is a lot more evidence to prove so too.
