"Find the traitors! Spare no one!" I bellowed to the armed soldiers, waiting for my command. A curse escaped my mouth as I fixed my leather armband. Tonight will be a long night and my soldiers were tired from their last bandit raid. And now, my brother Jin Ki has send word that two traitors from my father's inner counsel have deflected and fled for the next kingdom.
As the Crown Prince and the general of the King's private army, I have no choice but to hunt and execute them. Even if I am longing to just go home and lay down on my soft bed. But amongst my brothers, I was the only one who was interested on military tactics. So naturally I was expected to excel more than them.
"Wipe that frown upon your face, my Prince," Wang Ka Yee, my right hand man, whispered beside me. "We'll get them soon enough. So worry no more, you can rest on your bed tomorrow night...or the next," he grinned at me.
"I'll have your tongue cut out before I deported you to China," I replied as I looked at him. He was wearing a red uniform with an image of a black dragon stitched on his left sleeve under his leather vest, standing tall and proud. Black-haired, incredibly handsome (as per his insistence), and an outstanding sword master. He was a lord and a general like myself, sent to Korea by the Emperor of China as an emissary.
With much hesitation on my part, he eventually became a part of my army. From then on, we spent unnecessary time with each other, from our royal duties and back to back battles. Thus, we grew up together and we treated each other as family even if we were not bonded by blood and nationality.
"I love you too," he winked at me before climbing on his horse. "I'm off to patrol the grounds. Don't stay up," he added before urging his horse to a trot.
Now left with nothing to do, as I await the return of the scouts I've sent ahead. I decided to check the left side of the forest near our camping grounds. I have heard from the locals that there was a lake beyond the line of trees. And I needed a much overdue bath as I smelled the clothes on me with displeasure.
"I'm off to the forest," I called out to the soldier who was guarding the left side of the camp.
"A-Are you sure, my Lord?" he stammered and stood up as soon as I came near. I looked at him silently as he had the courage to question my action. "I...I mean, the locals said the forest and the lake is off limits during full moon," he added while bowing his head down.
"And why is that?"
"Ah...uhm, they said a dragon goes to the lake to take a bath during full moon,"
"A dragon? Foolishness! Dragons don't exist any more, same with the gods," I told him off. I can't believe a soldier of the King's army would be afraid of such fairy tales. "I am the Crown Prince of Saro. I am not afraid of what goes on my land," I huffed at him and continued walking towards the edge of the forest.
