"Come on guys! Time to go!" Tonks shouted as she opened the compartment door.

Everyone was relaxed and happy talking with each other. They talked as if they had been friends for a long time-well, most of them. James and Sirius talking with each other, Lily and Remus, sometimes Remus, James, Sirius and Tonks, and then Lily and Severus.

The train seemed to stop really soon but after a moment's time, they were all walking towards the carriages.

Everyone had very different impressions of each other. Severus Snape was considered proud, selfish and an idiot by James and Sirius but okay and quiet by Remus. Tonks-the cheerful, friendly, hyper girl by everyone and Remus thought her really pretty and polite. Lily was of course the brainy and angry one but exceptionally beautiful by James and a really good friend by Remus. James and Sirius were of course the outgoing but friendly by everyone else but a bit-or much idiotic by Lily and Severus. Remus was the shy, smart, polite and friendly according to everyone.

"Woah! Look at that! Its like a castle!" Marvelled Sirius as he gazed up at Hogwarts.

"Oi! Watch it! You'll make me drown!" Remus warned Sirius as he staggered off the boat the three boys came in.

"He's right, mate. You almost fed us to the squid!" James agreed.

"There's a squid here?!" Sirius looked around alarmingly.

"Oh come on!"

The Great Hall was beyond everyone's expectations. It was so....grand.
The roof, the tables, the smell of cooking and the Hall itself was magnificent.

Professor McGonnagal (as told to everyone by herself) came and set the stool and the sorting hat on top of it. She then took a roll of parchment and read the names from it.

"Black, Sirius!" She called out. Sirius went towards the stool with his head held high, though on the inside, he knew he was nervous. What if the hat sorted him into Slytherin?

He put the hat on and looked at its rim. C'mon! I can't wait! He thought and suddenly the hat replied:
An impatient one! Oh! And a Black! I see you would go to Slytherin then!

"No, please no!"

Aah! But whats this we see? Very little Slytherin traits! Very brave, outgoing too....then I know where to put you...GRYFFINDOR!!

The hat spoke the last words to the whole Hall and it suddenly erupted in cheers, especially the Gryffindor table. Sirius could have shouted! He was so happy! He ran to his new house and waited for the others.

"Evans, Lily!" Said Professor McGonagal and Lily went towards the hat with a nervous smile directed towards Severus.

You're very clever! The hat said when she tried it on. Lily was a bit surprised but kept on sitting nervously still.

You could do really well in Ravenclaw...but wait! You're a fighty one aren't you? And really brave as well! Stick up for your friends but are also loyal and hardworking. Though no one would want to get into a fight with you! I know the perfect house for you-GRYFFINDOR!!

Lily got up, definitely pleased but a bit unhappy at the same time-Severus would be sad. They both were best friends and she did'nt want to leave him. But there was still a tiny light of hope that maybe he could get into Gryffindor too though he disliked it.

"Lupin, Remus!" Came the call and Remus couldn't help but feel nauseated. He was worried about what house would he be in, would he make any friends? What if someone found out about his secret? These thoughts were nagging him at the back of his mind while he stood up a bit shakily and headed towards the hat.

Okay Remus..keep it together....don't do anything stupid...
Worried are we? The hat said. Remus's stomach did a somersault. This is nothing to be scared about. I can see it. I know that you have the ability to get very far ahead but the thing is...where to put you? Not Slytherin of course. If you have lycanthropy it doesnt mean you're evil! You are loyal and very smart and sharp. Ravenclaw could do you good...but thats not it. You put bravery and friendship before those qualities don't you? And youve faces thing no child your age has. So GRYFFINDOR is for you!

Remus was so happy he couldn't believe it! Gryffindor! The best house! He happily walked to the table where Lily and Sirius were cheering along with the others.

"Pettigrew, Peter!"

Peter put on the hat which slid over his left eye. He was hunched and a bit scared. I want Gryffindor! Was all his head could think.

Ahh! This is a challenge! You have great ambitions...but Gryffindor eh? So, you value bravery? Then your house is GRYFFINDOR!

Peter jumped up and ran to the Gryffindor table where he took a seat next to Remus, hardly believing his luck.

"Potter, James!"

James strutted up to the hat and put it on, not feeling nervous at all. He knew what house he would be in and the was Gryffindor.

Oh, this is easy. Though you are clever and loyal, your house is definitely GRYFFINDOR!

Hah! Told you so! But thanks all the same sorting hat!

Don't mention it.

James flung the hat up and ran to the Gryffindor table. He knew that he would get Gryffindor but deep in his heart he was a bit worried. But who was to worry about that now?

"Snape, Severus!"

Severus put the hat on, only wanting to be in Slytherin.

Slytherin? I know that you have ambitions and are wanting to be in this house, but Gryffindor could be good too....but Slytherin seems more appropriate so, SLYTHERIN!

Severus was happy that he was sorted into the house he wanted but wanted Lily to be with him....she was with that Potter boy now....but he could still see her in between classes...

He walked to the Slytherin table next to the prefect, Lucius Malfoy who clapped and thumped him

"Tonks, Nymphadora!"

"Don't call me that...." Tonks grumbled as she went towards the hat.

Ahh! Here's a lively one! Very brave I must say! And oh, easygoing too though you're stubborn. But the most prominent value is loyalty and hardwork. I can tell you that your father is going to be proud....HUFFLEPUFF!!

Tonks got up, beaming. She was really happy that she got her father's house. The hat was right, he would be proud and she would write to her parents the first thing in the morning though she was a bit disappointed that her friends were in another house.

"And now! I'm hungry!" Was the thought at everyone's mind, not only the first years, but the other students and professors too!
