1 August 1980, London
Florence Potter was sitting comfortably on the hip of her godfather, Remus, as he walked her through the streets of London on the way to Potter Manor in London. The girl was only one year and four months old, but she would be able to walk if he let her, but her godfather knew that she had a tendency to run rather than walk.
Remus wasn't risking an escape in the middle of the city, so in his hip she would stay, until they reached her destination. And it's not like she hadn't asked to be carried the moment they left the house that morning.
As they walked, Remus couldn't help but look at the unruly red-gold curl that fell over the girl's forehead, as it bounced with every step they took and caught his attention. They had spent quite a bit of time this morning arranging Florence's hair into two small pigtails with the top half of her hair, and that particular strand refused to stay within the restrictions of the pink hair pigtails. Remus would have tried holding the lock with a barrette, but Flo had baulked at the idea.
(Little Potter was very vocal about her own opinions, especially when it came to her appearance, which was good in most aspects. It meant that Flo was not only developing appropriately, but she was also smarter than children her age. But she became inconvenient, after 'mama', she learned the word 'no' perfectly.
James did not find it amusing when her third word was Rem, and not dad, which was the fourth. But he consoled himself with the knowledge that Sirius was nowhere near Flo pronunciation, much to Sirius's dismay.)
No matter how many hair clips Remus offered her, and the girl had A LOT of those thanks to James, Flo didn't want any and the lock was left free.
Flo wasn't really sure where they were going, but she knew what it had to do with the baby.
Yes, she knew about the baby.
Her mother had got fat and had told her that it meant there would be a baby in the house. She had helped choose the stuffed animals for the crib and everything else.
She had been talked to about the baby incessantly for a long time, to the point that sometimes she just wanted to play with her toys and not the fake baby her parents had got for her. But she played with him anyway, because her mother seemed to really like it when she played with the fake baby.
The thing was that Lily Potter knew for a fact that once Harry (a.k.a. Real-Baby), was born, neither she nor James would have as much time for their eldest daughter. They would have to divide their attention, and she knew there was a chance that Florence would not take it well. After all, she had been more than pampered in the near year and a half that she had been an only child.
"Papa?" Flo asked as she recognized the house from a distance.
Flo looked at her godfather with her head thrown to the side, causing him to smile happily at her. She knew she could make people very happy just by being her. She had been told it was because she was the prettiest girl in the world, so she used her power wisely.
"Yes, little one," he replied, still smiling, and the confirmation caused Flo to move excitedly in his arms.
Some time ago (two days to be exact), her father had told her that she would stay with her godfather while the baby was born. She loved spending time with her godfather, but she missed her mom and dad, and she wanted to see the baby. Florence couldn't contain her excitement, knowing it was finally time, and she giggled as they approached the front yard fence of her home.
