So this is the end of Immortus.

I wrote this initially as a way of venting against someone who was my personal tutor at college, and who really did bully me when I was going through a time of hardship.

The main character is based on the personal tutor I had, and the words he says to the student in the story are the actual words that he said to me when I was at college. The reflection of emotion that he shows are from patches of emotional disturbance that I picked up on when I was in the same vicinity as him, up to and including the self-harm scars which I still believe that I saw on his wrists.

The two military officers in the story- the arresting officer and the Controller- are based on the different aspects of my personal tutor’s own personality: he could be cold and callous the way the Controller is, but he could also be quieter and make everything seem much more like a game where he was always going to be the winner.

The student in the story is based on me. The conversations had in the story in italics are the same conversations that I had with my personal tutor. The managerial character is based on both of the year heads I had when I was at college, and reflects the decisions the college made towards me.

The storyline reflects a parallel universe in a what-if sense, where I was considering what would have happened if I had committed suicide. It was my way of venting all of the things I could never say or do to him in real life at a time when I needed to let go and move on.
