GLIDING THROUGH THE AIR, a swan in the world of humans. A dancer in the world of robotic motions. Expressions on her face, emotions in her heart, red strings wrapped around her pinkies. The ballerina.

May she reign.

May she blossom.

But before that, let's dip into the past.

"I love you," said a blithe voice.

Grey, stormy eyes stared at her with the affection of the moon. It glistened in the night, warming as intense as the red string wrapped around their pinkies. Levi reached forward. He placed a hand on the curve of Aurora's cheek, stroking the skin lovingly.

"I love you, too," he whispered.

Titans roamed the outer walls of their home.

"Hey," called an overexcited mad scientist; at least, their mad scientist, "what about me?!"

Light brown eyes stared their way. They glowed with specks of enthusiasm for the unknown, hues melting their hard times.

Aurora and Levi turned to Hange.

Soft smiles caressed their faces. Fond. Ever so in love. It was riddled in the bones, soaring in the depths of their connected souls.

Hands reached out, ruffling their hair.

"We love you, too."

White bandages were rolled around a bloody arm, tender fingers deftly moving around Hange's body. Aurora hummed a whispered song under her breath, caring eyes following each shift and flex of her soulmate's muscle.

An angry gremlin stormed into the room.

"Don't go where I can't follow you!"

Aurora laughed, as soft as the breeze. She looked up from the bed, where she and Hange sat. It was their bedroom within the Scout Regiment's castle outside their home.

"I'm sorry, dear," she apologised, eyes soft. "Hange simply got a little excited."

"A little is an understatement!"

He collapsed into their arms.

"Please." Their hearts stopped. Levi's voice sounded so weak...vulnerable. "I don't know what I would do without you two. You mean the world to me. I won't- I can't live without either of you. So, please. Don't do that again."

"Shit, go the other way!" Levi yelled, slicing through the air, grapple-hooks shooting from roof to roof. The sound of inhuman screeches reached their ears, followed by bullets barreling through the air. They were in enemy territory. And they needed to get out. Fast.

"Oh, look how pretty they are," cooed Hange, gazing down at the creatures below them. "I wonder if we could befriend them. Oh, I do miss Bean sometimes. Sawney, too."

A hand latched onto the back of their collar.

"Not the time, sweetheart!" called Aurora over the whips of air whipping past them.

She dragged her soulmate further, covering them with the mass of building flooding the area. Their enemy's town. They needed out.

"Watch out!"

A bullet pierced Aurora's back.

She gasped.

"Aurora!"

Her vision faded. Time slowed its motion, the world blurring as her gear failed to function without its host. Aurora's back crashed against the tarmac floor. Blood seeped into her eyes, pain coursed through her veins.

She saw her soulmates above her.

Footsteps thudded the area, a thunderstorm accompanied with the yells of warriors.

"Go," she whispered.

"Aurora!" they screamed.

Lips curled softly.

"Captain, we have to leave!"

The cadets glanced back with tears vision. That was their mentor, the woman who cared for them like a mother would. This couldn't be happening. It just couldn't. Why her?

Levi and Hange stared in horror. The string around their finger began to fade, tearing at the edges and ripping the crimson fabric.

Aurora watched from below.

One.

Two.

Three.

Her heartbeat rang in her ears.

One.

Two.

Three.

"Go. I'll see you again, dear soulmates."

Light entered her sight.

Silence waltzed around her.

One.

Two.

Three.

Sapphire eyes snapped open.

A dancer stood on a stage.

Her moment had arrived.

Music floated through the air, and arms rose. Feet swept across the wooden floor, her body manoeuvring flawlessly. The silver dress she wore followed each movement she moved. Aurora felt like she was flying.

It felt so familiar.

She had done this once.

In another life.
