"What is it, Roy?" Ardeth snapped as soon as he answered the call.
"Hello..." Sherlyn cried.
"Sherlyn?" Ardeth questioned. "What happened, why are you crying?" He asked as he heard noises in the background.
"Nick... Brawl.. he is hurt.." She cried. "He is losing blood, help.."
"I am on my way, be on the line" Ardeth said as she heard him speak with someone over the phone. "Fuck..." He cursed as he honked loudly yelling at someone.
Sherlyn cradled Nick's head as she managed to find her purse, and pressed some paper napkins against his head.
"Sherlyn..." Ardeth gasped as he came towards them, "Let's get away from here, the police are on their way." He said as he took Nick in his arms and nodded his head towards the back door.
Sherlyn followed Ardeth and soon they got into his car, he sped his car out of Matthews Farm house.
"And Please do the paperwork while we take care of the patient." The doctor said to Ardeth before they rushed Nick inside the ER.
"He is going to be okay." Ardeth said as he walked to Sherlynn's side.
"It's all my fault, I shouldn't have let him fight with the guy." Sherlyn cried as she remembered, how much blood Nick lost. "It's all my fault..." She sobbed as Ardeth wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
She remembered the last time she was in the hospital, when her mother got into an accident.
"He's going to be okay." Ardeth whispered into her hair, as she let her tears soak his shirt, "Don't cry, it's not your fault." He consoled.
"What if something happens to Nick, he lost a lot of blood." Sherlyn sobbed looking at Ardeth.
"He is a strong guy, I am sure he would be fine within a short time, trust me." Ardeth assured. "You need a first aid." He said as he examined her hand that had some cuts due to the broken glass.
"It's nothing." Sherlyn sniffed.
"Come with me." Ardeth said as he took her to the nurse station for first aid.
"The doctor informed that Nick has a mild concussion in his head and needed some stitches, apart from that he was good, and will be concious in few hours." Ardeth said walking towards Sherlyn,"I informed Nick's parents about his condition, unfortunately they are out of the state for a business deal, they will be here by tomorrow." Ardeth informed as they sat in the waiting room.
Sherlyn nodded.
They sat in the cold Steel chairs of waiting room in silence, Ardeth held her shivering hands between his warm and rough hands.
"It's getting late, you should go home and take rest." Ardeth said, "I will stay here to take care of Nick." He added before she could open her mouth to speak.
"Okay." Sherlyn sighed weakly.
"Come, I will drop you at home." Ardeth said as he raised from his seat and guided her towards the exit, all the while holding her hand.
The whole car ride to her home was a silent one, except for Ardeth, who was cursing the fellow riders, for not following the traffic rules.
"Sherlyn." Ardeth called snapping her out of the thoughts and she realised that they reached her home, and he parked his car infront of her home under the pole.
"Thank you." Sherlyn mumbled as she unfastened the seat belt to get down.
"Sherlyn..." Ardeth kept his hand on hers, making her turn around to face him. "Don't blame yourself, It's not your fault." He squeezed her hand as his blue eyes looked at her in concern and worry, he looked like a different person.
"Take care." Sherlyn mumbled and walked towards her home.
She heard him leave once she got inside her home and closed the door.
Sherlyn felt relieved that her father was asleep when she arrived, it helped her avoid the questions, she doesn't want to answer. All the night, she had nightmares about Nick and the brawl, it triggered her to remember the old memories that she pushed behind.
The next morning, she woke up earlier than usual and got ready to leave for college before dropping by at the hospital to check upon Nick.
"Good Morning." Sherlyn greeted Ardeth as she closed the door behind her.
Ardeth nodded as he stretched in the couch, where he sat whole night looking after Nick.
"I brought you some coffee and cupcakes." Sherlyn said as she handed him the coffee and cupcakes. "Any update about Nick?" Sherlyn said looking at Nick, who was sleeping.
"He woke up in the early hours, the doctors ran few tests on him, he is okay." Ardeth informed, "His parents should be here soon."
Sherlyn nodded her head in relief.
"Are you going to stand like that?" Ardeth asked as he moved making space on the coach. "Sit."
Sherlyn sat beside Ardeth making sure there is enough space between them.
"I don't know how you like your coffee, so I asked the barista to make it in the way I like." Sherlyn informed as she watched Ardeth about to drink the coffee.
"It's good." Ardeth answered as he drank the coffee. "Better than the one I drink."
After meeting Nick's parents and speaking with Nick, who assured that he was fine, Sherlyn decided to go to college.
"Going to college?" Ardeth asked as he exited the hospital with Sherlyn.
"Yes, I have Professor Ashford's class in the first hour." Sherlyn answered as she began to look for a cab.
"Come with me."
"Sorry?"
"I will drop you at the college." Ardeth elaborated as he walked towards the parking lot without waiting for the answer.
"I could have taken a cab." Sherlyn said softly as they drove towards the college.
Ardeth spoke without taking his eyes off the road, "I headed towards the same direction, that's why I offered to drop you at college, other wise I don't play Chauffeur."
"Arrogant pig." Sherlyn mumbled.
"I surely don't resemble to a swine in anyway and you now that better." Ardeth smirked.
"Are you not attending the college today?" Sherlyn asked trying to change the awkward topic.
"I don't like wasting my precious time listening to the shit they teach." Ardeth shrugged. "I have Nick to do my assignments and share the notes."
"College is not that boring, besides Nick can't do your assignments at this moment. You shouldn't miss your classes." Sherlyn said and mentally slapped herself for blabbering.
"Neither the exams nor the assignments worry me." Ardeth said as he stopped the car infront of the college. "Go."
"Thanks for the ride." Sherlyn said as she got down the car gathering her belongings and Ardeth drove away.
