Prologue:
BANG! A sticky red substance clouded his vision, seeping down his forehead, to his lips, pooling around his mouth. He stumbled forward, almost tripping over his own feet, trying to escape. He caught a slight glance of a figure leaning on the door, saying something, urging something. He could faintly see the outline of his friend, trying to reach him, get him out, escape, but there was nothing. There was no escape...no escape. No escape...₦Ø Ɇ₴₵₳₱Ɇ!
Chapter 1: Matt's POV
I strode into Blue Base thinking to myself, sarcastically, Uggghhhh let's see what the world of Project 863 holds for us today. As I opened the door and glanced inside, I immediately saw Sam casually talking to Woods over by the entrance to Megadesk along with Bailey typing away at her desk, as well as Tanner in his closet space that he calls an office.
Everything seems normal..too normal, I thought to myself as I greeted Sam and Woods.
"So, anything new?" I asked them, hoping, pleading, that they would say no.
"Nothing for now, and hopefully nothing at all," Sam replied, sounding quite tired, as if something kept her up last night. I let out a sigh of relief, grateful for her response and just as I was about to bring up a plan for what we should do in case something came up, a sound rang out throughout the base, a ding, kind of like an alarm, a screechy alarm.
At that moment, everybody perked up, suddenly very concerned and anxious. I let out a nervous laugh as the noise sounded once again. I glanced at both Sam and Woods, both sharing glances at each other, Sam looking more scared than anything else. Woods' expression was mostly unreadable, but there was something else. Nervousness? No. Was it anger? I didn't think much of it though, just a thought.
We all shared looks of "Let's figure out what this is and hope that we don't end up dead." The noise sounded once again, a screechy, high pitched sound, coming from upstairs. Great...there's gonna be something around the corner isn't there?
"Okay you guys stay here, okay? I'm going to go check what that is," I stated nervously. Woods was about to protest, but then stopped himself, knowing that this wasn't the time for arguments.
I slowly stalked up to the stairs, and then suddenly felt a tap on my shoulder. I jumped, naturally, and quickly turned around to see Sam, with a Nerf gun...for protection apparently. Sam apologized, in a hushed voice, suggesting the idea of protection...with a Nerf gun. I accepted it, I mean after all, it's something. A blow to the head with that plastic toy won't feel very good, at least.
I slowly, ever so slowly walked up the stairs. On the fourth step, it gave a creak. I silently cursed the stupid step for giving away where I was. As I reached the landing, I slowly peered around the corner, extremely nervous of what could be behind.
From the small glance that I took, the stairs appeared to be empty, and the second landing had nothing. Then where is it coming from? And why is it so loud?
I walked around the corner, still extremely cautious, my heart thumping rapidly in my chest. Slowly walking up the steps, I reached the top of the stairs. There was nothing, nobody...except for Kevin in his office of course. I called the others, and they quickly followed up the stairs.
The coast seemed clear as I checked each office, the vault, and the conference room. After checking each room, the noise was heard again, this time it was extremely loud, and seemed to be coming from the vault. I quickly typed the combination into the lock, opening the vault again, to find nothing, everything seemed normal except for the RSD.
The RSD was blinking, something it has never done before. I looked closely at it, still keeping my distance just in case it turned out to be a bomb. The icon on the map showed a radioactive symbol with a slight bit of information on the side. I pressed the icon, bringing up the coordinates and even more information.
I glanced back with a nervous laugh at Sam and Woods, along with Bailey and Tanner who all looked eagerly at me, awaiting an answer as to what it was.
"So...there's a radioactive spike somewhere around here, since it's setting this thing off," I explained, glancing between all of them as I spoke.
"Okay, do you have the coordinates?" Woods asked, half expecting a longer explanation to the beeping.
"Yes and by the looks of the map, the radioactive spike seems to be just down the road, near more abandoned businesses," I said, slightly relieved that it wasn't in a residential area or at the studio itself.
I laughed nervously, "Okay. Before we do anything, we should make a plan since we have absolutely no idea what we're getting ourselves into."
"Yeah," Sam replied.
"It's probably Benji causing mayhem again," Woods said, slightly annoyed. We all gave a small giggle when Woods used the nickname we gave B27.
"Okay so here's the plan..."
