"They did it."

"Finnick, we need you to act distraught. Come on, raw emotions." Said the woman holding the camera. She was nice, I think she's called Cressida.
His face remained expressionless and droopy. His eyes remained fixed on the floor, just like Laven did on the train. The huge bags under his eyes and his disengaged posture really made me feel sorry for him. Cressida sighed and dropped her arm. I knew this would be the time for Finnick to talk.
"If you want 'raw emotions', it needs to be real. Not fake and scripted." I said, my arms crossed over my chest. She looked around the grey and black room before pursing her lips.

"Well, we can't... We can't replay it." She said, hushed. Finnick whimpered. Cressida's eyes shot open and she spun around.
"Finnick, how did it happen? How did they... do it?" She asked, smiling slightly.
He slowly raised his head and fixed his gaze on her.
"Cressida, I don't think this is a good-"
"They drowned her." He said, sharply.
We both snapped our heads to him. He looked angry, and sad.
"They filled a tank with salt water and slowly raised the level."
I grimaced at the thought.
"Watching her... Watching her struggle and gasp for breath... It just... I..." He stuttered, his eyes were filling with tears.
"Perfect." I heard Cressida mumble under her breath, camera raised.

"She was pregnant." He said.
My eyes flew open. This caused dread and anger in me. Annie's hair looked like Laven's.
I raised my hand to my chin and furrowed my brow.
"The Capitol... The capitol killed an unarmed, scared, innocent person. They also killed her child, our child. Then again, they've been doing the same every year for 75 years." He sneered.
"You can all relate to the pain of losing a child." He looks straight into the camera and locks his jaw.
"We need to unite. The districts against the capitol. We outnumber them ten fold."
"This is an opportunity. This is our chance. Us against them."
Cressida beams and drops her arm.
"Perfect."

I walk down the hall to Coin's meeting room. We are going to discuss when Laven will be let out. I turn the corner into the room and stop dead in my tracks.

"Effie?"
She turns around and I see her for the first time, bare faced and dressed in grey. She still had a certain quality that made her distinguishable.
"Haymitch." She replies. She turns back.
"What? Are you mad at me or somethin'?" I ask, sitting down.
She turns her head away from me.
"Effie? What did I do?"
She purses her lips.
"Effie!"
She suddenly slams her hand down on the table and wears a look i her face that I can only describe as pure hatred. She leans in to me and scowls.
"District 13 bombed the Capitol. They destroyed my house. My daughter was STILL INSIDE!" She screams. Her spit hits my face. Woah, daughter?!

"She's dead, Haymitch. She was three."
"She's dead because of you. Because of your little movement." She spits. Boggs wrestles with her and finally gets her to sit down. I realise my mouth must be open.
"I'm... I.." I choke out.

"President Coin, the districts are sending messages. I think they're going to attack the Capitol."

Says a man at the door, hastily.
Coin's eyes and mouth fly open and she shoots up.
"Get Plutarch. Get everyone that might help. Get the victors. Haymitch, get Laven and Finnick and meet us in the command room. Everyone else, follow me." She snaps, her words calm but her face twisted into an expression of pure panic. She rushes out of the room, and gestures for everyone to follow her.
I shoot out of the room and see Finnick at the door, Laven unhooking things from her body and rushing to the door. I nod at them, and steady Laven.
"Finnick, catch up with them. Go." I say. He nods, and bounds down the hall. His eyes were red but he still looked strong.
"Come on, we need to hurry." I say to Laven. She looks so much better. Her face is filling out and she doesn't look so... dead.

She scurries along without much help from me. I follow closely behind her. I can practically feel the tension as my heart pounds.
We follow the crowd of victors and important people and find ourselves in the command room. I can't hear anything over the fast chatter that fills the room.
Beetee and Wiress are sitting down typing rapidly, surrounded by dozens of screens, displaying codes and numbers. I see 12 screens with live action places on them, and realise it's the districts.
"The hell? Haymitch! Is that your house?!" Laven shrieks. I snap my head to the screen and see it.
My house. Completely unharmed. Stood there, pristine and shining. They left my house alone.
I nod.
"Why the hell did they do that?!" She asks, brows furrowed.
"I don't know. I don't-"

"Broadcasting all districts. All districts, reply." A voice says.
"District 13." Beetee says.
"District 8"
"District 2"
"District 11"
Various voices announce their existence. All apart from 12.
"District 13. All districts to fire all bombs supplied at the Capitol in exactly... 2 minutes." Beetee commands.
"We sent bombs to all districts to fire, confirm you have firearms." He continues.
"Confirmed." Was repeated 11 times, in different voices.
"1 minute 30 seconds."

"Slow and steady wins the..." Wiress says, then trails off.
"Race." Beetee finishes. They both type at extremely fast.
"Blocking the Capitol from infiltrating the correspondence." Says a man. The district 1 screen lights up, so I guess it's from 1.
Wiress babbles code and Beetee nods.
"1 minute." Johanna announces.
Suddenly the room seems quiet and everyone practically leans forward in anticipation.
"Infiltrating Capitol surveillance. Cutting off missile sensors."
Suddenly a few black screens turn to different streets. One camera is trained on the president's mansion. I watch with hatred. My legs feel numb with fear and anticipation. Laven is gripping my arm hard. I want to tell her everything will be ok,
But I'm not so sure.

"50 seconds to fire."
I grit my teeth. I scan every screen in the room and ball my fists.
"40"
Nobody dares breathe.
"30"
My whole body feels numb.
"20"
"10"
"5"
"4"
"3"
"2"
"1"
"Fire."
The screens show red and orange, huge missiles erupt from unexpected locations. I feel rumbling and realise that 13 has fired too.
I'm shaking as I watch the screens.

It feels like forever before I see people running in the Capitol streets.
Bomb explode. Cameras cut out. Everyone is silent until the last camera shorts out. The president's mansion.
It's destroyed.

"They've done it." Beetee says, hugging Wiress tightly.
"We've won!" She shrieks, looking at everyone in the room. My ears ring as everyone cheers. I feel Laven's arms wrap around my chest, and I hug her back.
Oh my god.
It's over.
We've won.
