Euphemia was confused. She blankly stared at the letter not knowing what to say or do. Magic? Isn't magic a stupid tale parents tell their kids. She thought about showing the letter to the Dursley's, but quickly shook that thought away. "They don't need to know, nobody does," she whispered. She quickly put the letter under her bed, which was a cheap mattress that had holes in it, and exited the cupboard to complete her chores for the day.

Effie opened the trash can to see if there were any old newspapers of uncle Vernon's . She gathered a few and to search for any reference about a place named Hogwarts, she was starting to get desperate. She had searched everywhere and anywhere for this so-called magic school but she found nothing; she even wound up in trouble because she had lost track of time in the library searching.

After many hours of reading all the newspapers she could find Effie then re-read the letter in hopes that there would be any clues as to what this place was and the weird thing was that the letter didn't have a phone number. All it said was we await your owl.

So for the last time, Effie went to the library thinking that maybe the word owl was an abbreviation for something because no one sends letters in owls as she thought incredulously.  With the letter in her hands, she keeps rereading it looking at books that might help her out. She looks up, only to find a man with long light brown hair, dark brown eyes, and a slightly large nose. He looked at her as if he recognized her from somewhere or rather reminded him of someone, not knowing what to say, she awkwardly smiled at him then went back to her books.

Several minutes passed and he was still looking at her and then she snapped, she shut her book and looked at him, her green eyes narrowed in suspicion. "I'm sorry, is there something on my face or do you find it amusing to stare at young girls faces like a creep?!" He then looked sheepish for a second before he answered, "i'm sorry it's just that you look like someone I used to know, oh where are my manners my names Dirk, Dirk Cresswell."

Effie eyed him skeptically before saying in a rather harsh tone. "Well Mr. Cresswell, it's been a pleasure, but if you're expecting me to tell you my name then I am sorry to disappoint, you good day!" She then re-opened her book and resumed reading. While Dirk just gave a small, smile she definitely had her mother's spitfire he thought.

And suddenly he caught sight of the letter Effie had beside her on the table his eyes widened slightly before saying "I see you've gotten your Hogwarts letter?" Effie's eyes immediately shot up. She contemplated for a moment, whether to ask him what the letter meant, but then again he was only a stranger. But alas, her curiosity got the best of her and she then asked him curiously "Do you know what this letter means?"Dirk furrowed his eyebrows wasn't she supposed to know all about the wizarding world, Dumbledore had said that she was left in the care of her loving relatives who supposedly taught her all about the wizarding world.

He frowned slightly before saying in a slightly quiet and questioning tone "yes, of course I do you don't?" Effie then sat up straighter and then eagerly said "So what does it mean then, this whole magic thing is real?!" Dirk's frown deepened after a moment hesitation he then said " Yes, magic is real, Hogwarts is a school for magic, how come you don't know about any of this?" It was then Effie's turn to frown, before she shook her head and said hotly " How was I supposed to know!" "One day this letter just randomly showed up in the mailbox, so pray do tell how I would know?!"

Dirk contemplated his answer for a second before adding in a calm tone "No reason, I just assumed you knew that's all, if you like I could tell you about Hogwarts" he finished with a shrug of his shoulder, before adding hastily, "Only if you want to of course and feel comfortable enough," Effie went silent for a moment even though she didn't know this man she felt like she could trust him.

And so after a few minutes of silence Effie said "Alright, tell me" she then smiled at him, a smile in which he returned.

As he began to explain the wizarding world, including the parts that included her parents, Effie listened intently to everything he said. Both of them not knowing that later on she would see him as a father figure, and she would be like the daughter he never had. But one thing was for sure Euphemia Potter now knew about the wizarding world and about her family. She would make sure that she made her parents proud of her, she would make sure of that, even though she knew so little about magic. She would become one of the best witches of her age, because if there's one thing Euphemia Potter thrives on, it's academic validation. and nothing will get in her way of achieving greatness.
