"My luck is so bad," Lexie whimpers, holding her injured hand close to her chest while Mark and her walked through the woods, hoping to find any sign of the others.

The forest was beautiful, actually. If not for the dire circumstances, Lexie would love to spend an afternoon leaning against a tree reading a book, listening to the birds chirping as the wind gently blew her hair back.

But reality sucks.

"They must be anywhere close. I mean, we were all in the same plane. It's not possible they ended up very far away, right?" Mark questions, sighing sightly as he runs his hand through his hair.

Mark has already been through hell on earth. His childhood wasn't magical and perfect, much less his adolescence or adulthood. Since he was little he learned the hard way that he is the only person who, at the end of the day, is going to be true to himself. That as long as he trusted himself and his abilities, everything was going to be under control. Now, he bets that "everything gets under control" didn't extend to a plane crash.

"How did I get this bad luck? I mean, is it a karma? Did I do something horrible in my past life?" Lexie kept rambling behind Mark, who was trying to find any clue that would be helpful to find the other surgeons on board; footprints, anything.

Lexie didn't normally believe in bad luck, but she couldn't see another logical explanation for the events of the last few years of her life. Her mother had died from a procedure that has a 1% fatality, and now she was lost in the middle of the woods, injured and did not know if her colleagues and her sister were still alive. What besides bad luck can this be?

"We were all in the plane when it crashed. We can have been thrown away, but not that far. Right, Lexiepedia?" Now he asked the question towards his know-it-all friend (who he wished she was not his friend though, but there's not where his mind should be set right now.)

"That's it. I must have killed someone in my previous life. This is my karma. I have been living my karma for so long. This explains so many things," Lexie continued to ramble, not acknowledging Mark's question, or Mark at all. She was way too lost in her thoughts, as her brain tried so hard to explain and process what was happening.

"Lexie!" Mark yelled, getting her attention, although he tried to ignore how she winced at his yell, "Listen to me. This is not karma, this is not bad luck. It just... happened, okay? It just happened. Bad things always happen, and there's no such thing as bad luck or karma to explain that. The world is simply a bad place where bad things happen whether you're a good person or not, whether you follow the rules or not; no matter who you are, where you came from or who you love, bad things always happen. So just get it together and help me find the others!"

Lexie stood there, freezing to Mark's words. He sighed, instantly regretting yelling at her. He approached her, supportingly placing his hands on her shoulders, "Look, Little Grey, I know you're scared. Hell, I'm too. But we're alive, and that's what matters right now. We have to find the others, too. So let's just focus on that, OK? Don't worry your pretty head about why it happened, just acknowledge it happened and let's move on. We really need to find the others."

Lexie nodded, giving the man she loves a small smile. They continued looking, walking side by side in silence, until Lexie broke it, "This is a disaster of epic proportions."

Mark rolls his eyes, "Lexie..." he sighed.

"I mean, I tell you that I love you, then your girlfriend shows up. We were in a plane, and it crashed. We managed to do some damage, huh?" Lexie joked, and Mark chuckled.

"I'm glad to know if I go down, you will too. We have an invisible string or something," Mark says, looking at the girl beside him that, even given the circumstances, still looked breathtakingly beautiful.
