It was eleven at night when the call came, and Kojiro sat up in bed as the familiar ringtone played loudly. Cursing, Kojiro rubbed his eyes and picked up his phone, already knowing who was phoning him at that time at night.

"Kaoru, it's eleven at night, why are you-"

"I need you here," Kaoru whispered, his broken voice interrupting Kojiro's sentence. "Please, Kojiro. I feel so alone. I don't want to be alone. I'm scared."

Kojiro's chest tightened at Kaoru's words and he quickly jumped out of bed, pulling on a pair of jogging bottoms and a t-shirt. He knew exactly how Kaoru was feeling and tried to hurry up, not wanting to leave his best friend alone for much longer.

"Give me twenty minutes," Kojiro said down the phone calmly. "I'm just getting dressed. Breathe with me, Kaoru."

He heard some quiet sniffles from the other end of the phone and smiled softly to himself. He loved Kaoru to bits, even his messy parts, and always tried to make him feel better. Even when his stubborn friend did call him in the middle of the night. Kojiro finished getting dressed and picked up an extra hoodie for Kaoru. He threw his toothbrush and comb into a bag as well as some fresh clothes for the morning. He wasn't going to leave Kaoru until he was feeling better, even if that did mean he'd sleep there for the night, which he didn't mind at all.

"I have to go to Kaoru," he said to his parents, who were just going to bed. "I'll stay the night, so you don't have to worry."

His mum sighed and ruffled his hair. "Be careful, okay? And don't stay up too late, I know what you boys are like."

Kojiro gave her a grin before kissing her and his dad on the cheek and picking up his board. He left his house and skated to Kaoru's, who was most likely in the house alone. Kojiro remembered Kaoru telling him something about his parents going on another business trip for a couple of weeks, leaving him alone with the house. Any other teenager would love the freedom, but not Kaoru. Koniro knew that Kaoru needed people, needed someone to be there in case his anxiety got worse, or if he felt alone. Kojiro was there though, and he wasn't going to leave.

He soon got to Kaoru's house and unlocked the door with the key he was given. As soon as he opened the door and walked into the house, a pink and blue blur jumped on him, knocking him backwards and against the wall. Kojiro let out a yell and instinctively wrapped his arms around Kaoru, pulling him into his chest. He brushed his fingers through his friend's hair and held him tightly as he cried into him.

"I thought you wouldn't come," Kaoru sniffled, sitting up to look Kojiro in the eyes. "I thought you would leave me here. Like he did."

That just made Kojiro pull Kaoru closer to him. "Hey, it's okay. I'm here now. I'm sorry it took so long. But I'll never leave you, Kaoru. Not in a million years. You're stuck with me for life."

"But you're going away in a few days, aren't you?" Kaoru said, now gripping Kojiro tightly as fresh tears ran down his face. "You're going to leave me then and I'm going to be alone."

"I'm only going to Italy for three years," Kojiro said as he brushed Kaoru's tears away with his thumb. "And three years is nothing really."

"Three years is everything," Kaoru whispered and turned away from Kojiro's gaze. "A lot can happen in that time."

Kojiro said nothing at that and sat up. Kaoru moved back and helped him up and the two of them walked further into the house. Kaoru's house was really modern but still had a traditional feel to it, mostly provided by the various antiques his parents had around the different rooms to show off their wealth. Kojiro knew these things meant nothing to Kaoru but still found them very impressive.
