I sprint right on the tail of my sister Petunia who is screaming bloody murder throughout the house. She ran through the front door of our house and zigzagged into the kitchen where my father peacefully washes the dishes. If only Petunia would spare a second of the day to actually listen to what I have to say. Then maybe we could get along like we used to. But no, she results to ignoring and hating me just because I have magic and she doesn't. Not that mother and father believe in magic, or as they say "nonsense".
"Father!" Petunia shrieks, sliding into the kitchen. "She's doing it again. Her and that Snape boy." She makes an ugly face at the end that is very unflattering for her. It wasn't that I disliked my sister's appearance, but its generally described as unfortunate compared to mother, father and I. Petunia's platinum blonde hair falls just past her shoulders and is paired with a tall, bony frame, topped off with small black eyes. My parents would never mention it to us, but I would always hear our neighbors discussing my own looks in a much more pleasant tone than my sister. Fiery red hair and bright emerald eyes certainly make me stick out, but in all honesty the attention is more pestering than appreciated.
Father sighs and sets down the soapy pot he had been scrubbing. He wipes his hands on a towel on the countertop and turns to face us sternly with his arms crossing over his chest.
"We've talked about this Petunia. There is nothing abnormal about your sister," Father tries to reassure Petunia, who tilts her head up petulantly and pouts.
In all fairness he's completely wrong. There is something abnormal about me. Ever since I was seven years old magic has been popping into my life all around me. I welcome it with open arms and have gained knowledge and control over it. Although this isn't always the case. Once my teacher was yelling at me in class and her clothes turned bright fluorescent pink mid lecture! That isn't usually how it happens. I've managed to control it and occasionally I'll work with Sev to find certain words that I create into spells using Latin. It's quite confusing though, and I have only a short list of spells, but Sev assures me that they will come easier when I go to school. Severus is my best friend in the whole world. Without his help, I would never have managed to gain some control over my magic.
"B-but...she's...abnormal!" Petunia argues, stamping her foot.
"Now," Mother says, appearing in the hall behind me. "You don't think you could've imagined something happening?"
It's annoying that mother and father never believe me. If they would only take me seriously maybe they could even convince Petunia to accept my magic too.
"Yes," Petunia grits out. "One minute there was nothing, the next, there was a flower in her hand. It's impossible! She's-she's a freak!"
"I'm not a freak!" I cry out. An uneasy sinking feeling fills my stomach like whenever Petunia says something like this to me.
"Don't talk to your sister that way!" Mother exclaims. "And...I think it best if you would go to your room. Both of you."
Petunia huffs.
"Freak," She mutters, passing me and bumping my shoulder with her own.
The unmistakable sound of a door slamming echoes from above. Tuney never understands. And I used to think that our sister bond was unbreakable. What a silly notation. My eyes drift sadly to the ground and I sulk to my room upstairs. I gently close my door and get on my hands and knees to pull my diary out from under my bed.
