georges' pov
it was a gruelling nine hour flight from london to orlando. i personally find it stupid that we had to move countries for mom's job. i'm sure there would've been other full time jobs in london that she could've gotten, but she just insisted. she said it would be nice for a fresh start.
the job she got was an executive assistant, which honestly, should be quite well paying i'd hope. i don't even know why they were offering the job to people who already live in britain.
we got checked out of the airport, and had to get an uber to where we'd now be living for the next wee while.
i think my mom is going to be trying to sell our car that's back in britain, not sure how that works but she'll find a way.
we got our uncle to drive our car back from the airport to our house so it doesn't just sit in the airport carpark. i think it would've been smarter to take a shuttle to the airport, but we're running tight on money.
i sat with my dad in the back of the uber, and i could feel his eyes on me the whole time.
i rested my elbow on the window sill and rested my chin in the palm of my hand, gazing longingly out of the window.
i suddenly remembered to text back my friends, so i whipped out my phone but realised it was dead.
makes sense because i was on it for a while on the plane, though it must've died when i wasn't on it. it happens a lot.
i decided to just charge it back at the house, once we arrived.
the drive hadn't taken any longer than half an hour.
when i got out of the uber, i only just then realised how hot it was here. the air conditioning must've been blasting in the car.
the house was a bit bigger than expected, i didn't realise we could've afforded something like this so soon. i guess the pay check for my mom would be bigger, meaning we could pay it off easier. if only my dad would get a job and help.
i allowed myself to take in the place.
it was a two story house, like ours before. i really hoped i'd get a room on the second floor, but then again, i don't have much say in what i get, as it's usually my dad picking and choosing everything for us.
the garden area outside of it was also quite nice, there was a stony driveway into a garage, and some nice places to plant whatever you'd like.
around the back, there was also a pool, which was awesome. i guess it's kind of compulsory to have a pool if you live in florida, just due to the heat.
when you go inside the house, you walked into an entry and to your left, there was a living room, and to your right was a kitchen. on the left facing the kitchen, there was a door, which i believed was a laundry. there were two doors on the back wall, which i was assuming was a bathroom and bedroom. next to the doors was a set of stairs.
when you walked up, it was a hallways with doors running along both walls. i didn't get a chance to check out which rooms were what because i was called down by mom to help carry in the boxes.
only then, it felt real. only then, i realised i was actually here. in florida.
before i went back down to help, i rushed to put my phone on the charger, just so it's at the least a little bit charged so i could text back my friend.
i was honestly knackered from the flight, even though i got a good few hours of sleep on the plane.
i trudged downstairs to help lug the boxes into the house.
my dad didn't even bother to help. he just went to sit on the couch. no surprises there.
i didn't bother to interact with him, i know pretty damn well were that will end up.
my mum and i were surprisingly quick and bringing in everything.
i decided to not enter any bedrooms before i knew which one my dad wanted. at our old house, he barely went upstairs, so i'm assuming he would want to share the bottom bedroom with mom, like what he did in london. but if i'm being honest, he didn't really go anywhere aside from staying on the couch in the lounge, or getting up to go to the fridge to get a drink.
i think i realised this before dad, because if he knew, he'd probably go ballistic, but currently we have no alcohol in the house. i'd better go out and get some before he ever found out.
i walked around the house looking for mom. turns out she was upstairs decorating one of the bathrooms.
"the place is nice," i spoke.
"yeah, it was a good steal, it was pretty cheap," she replied with a smile.
i just nodded. i was trying to think of what to say, and how to word it. "i could probably try to make this place feel like..." i said, but i trailed off at the end.
"home?" she questioned.
"home."
