My father drives me to school the next morning. He hasn't said a word to me since I arrived yesterday, and I don't think he plans to. He stops just outside the school gates and I shuffle out of the car, as soon as I shut my door my father drives away. I shake my head and walk through the school gates. I'm instantly approached by my friends.
"Oh my god Heather are you OK!?!" Ellie asks.
"Heather what happened!?!" Jazzy asks.
"Was it all OK!?!" Kayleigh asks.
I shake my head "Everything I said would happen, happened."
Jazzy wraps an arm around me "Girls toilets, NOW!!!"
We all walk to the girls toilets and Ellie gives me a worried look "Show us Heather, we need to know how bad it was."
I sigh "Fine, but be prepared to be grossed out." I lift up my school shirt to reveal the bruises all over my ribs and stomach.
My friends all gasp "OH MY GOD HEATHER!!!" Kayleigh cries.
Ellie shakes her head and covers her hand with her mouth.
Jazzy runs towards me and pulls me in for a hug. I hiss in pain but I really appreciate the hug. "At lunch time we're all going to this meeting with Mr Quinn, he wants you to come." She whispers.
I nod "OK. Do you guys mind if I just walk around the school grounds for a bit? I could really use some alone time..."
The girls all smile and nod "That's fine Heather."
I nod before walking out of the girls toilets and slinging my bag over my shoulder. I see all of the girls run down to the music room but shrug it off. I walk around the art block and the locker rooms. I'm always super early to school because I like walking around on my own.
"HEATHER!?!?!" A manly American voice shouts.
I turn on the spot to see Mr Quinn standing about 20ft behind me. "Hey Mr Quinn." I smile weakly.
He runs towards me "The girls told me everything. I'm so sorry Heather!"
I shrug "Its fine."
Mr Quinn shakes his head "No it isn't, you know its not! How bad are the bruises? The girls couldn't describe them properly because they were crying."
I lift my shirt up slightly to show him the corner of one of my bruises "That's not even the worst one, its just the one that's easiest to show you."
Mr Quinn gasps "Oh my god! Heather, that's not right!"
I nod "I know. What can I do to stop them though? Nothing. Nobody will believe me. My stepmother is a brilliant liar."
Mr Quinn smiles as though he's remembered something "Are you coming to that meeting at lunch?"
I raise an eyebrow "Sure, where is it?"
Mr Quinn smiles wider "The music room!"
I facepalm "Of course, duh! Stupid me!"
Mr Quinn laughs "You've got music with me today, right?"
I reach for my school planner in my bag and check "Yep, second period!"
Mr Quinn smiles "See you then Heather!"
I laugh "See you then sir!" And, just as I finish my sentence, the bell goes to tell everybody that the locker rooms are open.
