Piper

After everything that happened, I felt a deep desire to be able to hug her.

There's nothing this woman can't do.

Suddenly she gently pulls me away.

"So I'm going to see how he is", says Jack bringing us back to reality.

"Ok, we'll wait for you outside.", I answer him.

I walk towards the exit and shortly after Alex joins me.

"When did you learn to do what you did?" I ask her curiously.

She moves a lock of hair to the side.

That was a long time ago. My father often took me to work with him, and that's where I learned what I know. He wanted me to become a doctor, to follow in his footsteps, but the desires I carried inside were different. ", she replies.

"I see. However, if you hadn't been there, Samantha and the baby probably wouldn't have made it. ", I say looking at her.

"I was really afraid of not being able to do it.", She replies worried.

I take a cigarette out of my bag and light it.

The night keeps me company with its dark colors. The wind moves the leaves of the trees, cutting out any other noise.

I would like to try to understand what is wrong with me. Samantha and I have a wonderful relationship, yet she didn't hesitate to hide from me about her pregnancy, and even before the relationship with Jack. I would like an explanation, but I have to stop being intrusive.

"Are you nervous?" She asks me.

"Enough.", I reply.

I hold the white smoke in my mouth and relax.

"I can't believe she's been kept in the dark," I exclaim out of the blue.

"Maybe she didn't want to worry you.", she replies.

"Worry about what? That my boss slept with one of his employees despite being married and got her pregnant? ".

She looks at me surprised.

"Yeah ...", I continue, "he surprised me too."

"Don't you think that one can do what he wants with his private life?", she asks me shortly after focusing her attention on my lips.

"Yes, no one doubts this. I certainly do not judge, but they could have told me about it ", I begin irritably.

Five minutes later Jack joins us.

"Would you have a cigarette for me too?" He says contritely.

"Here.", I hand him the package.

"How is she?" Alex asks him.

Better now. She's under anesthesia, we have to wait for her to wake up. ", He says.

I look him in the eye for a moment.

"Is it possible to know why you didn't tell me anything?", I ask him out of the blue.

"Piper ... it's a very long story indeed. You wouldn't have understood. ", He tries to justify himself.

"How long has this been going on?", I continue.

"Piper, it doesn't seem the case.", Alex intervenes.

"How long has this been going on?", I repeat, getting even closer to him.

"For ... three months.", He admits.

I look at him dumbfounded.

"That's why you had to leave early, you planned to see each other secretly.", I point out.

"Piper, please don't say anything to my wife. I just..."

"I will not say anything at all, I can assure you, because these are not facts that concern me. But you have to promise that you will take care of the baby, because he is your son. Did you understand me?".

"Of course, I won't let her or the baby lack anything, but it's a delicate situation."

I nod my head.

He is about to go back inside when he approaches Alex.

"Thank you, for everything you did tonight.", He tells her.

"Not at all, I'm glad I was able to help.", She exclaims.

"And... Piper ", he says, turning to me," you should go home now, I'll stay here. "

Are you sure? I can stay, "I reply.

YES, I'm sure You've done too much. ",

He pats me on the shoulder and greets Alex with a smile before disappearing into the massive hospital facility.

"What time is it?", I ask Alex a few moments later.

She takes the phone out of her pocket.

"Two a.m." She exclaims agitated.

"Fuck, there's a lesson tomorrow.", I remind her.

"Don't tell me.", she smiles.

"We are also on foot", I stress.

"We can call a taxi if you like.", she tells me.

I agree and shortly after we are on our way home.

"Do you live far from me?", I ask her.

"Not much.", she replies.

We are silent.

I watch life go by outside the window of that yellow cab. The nightlife has always fascinated me.

Those trees, life that flows: it makes me feel less alone.

Suddenly I feel a warmth on my hand.

I look at it and notice that Alex has placed her on top of mine.

With his fingers he tickles my back and stares at me smiling.

I get lost in those eyes and I wish I never got out of there.

"Arrived.", Communicates shortly after the taxi driver.

Back to reality, I take my hand out from under hers and greet her and get out of the car.

"See you tomorrow, Piper.", she tells me.

"See you tomorrow, Alex."; I answer her.
