I felt terrible about the way our date ended, these horrible feelings only getting stronger as Sans didn't text me for a week. I would see him in the yard every now and then only for him to disappear into the house. He definitely didn't want to see me, or possibly me to see him, even though I was checking my phone for his messages every ten minutes.

I sighed as I got out of my car, picking up my bag to clean everything after the birthday party I'd come back from. I spotted Papy and Sans for a second before the shorter skeleton disappeared to be brothers apparent confusion. I hoisted my bag to my shoulder and waved to Papy.

Papy was happy to approach. "It's good to see you, Melody. I don't know what is going on with Sans lately."

I smiled. "That's okay," I signed. "I don't think I'm ready to talk to him right now anyway."

"Did you have a fight?" Papy asked.

"No, Papy," I sighed. "It's nothing big. We just need some time to figure out what to say to each other."

"Hmm..." Papy nodded. "Have you tried hello?"

I smiled. "That sounds like a good idea, Papy. Thank you."

"The best of luck in talking to my brother," Papy said. "By the way, what are those on your porch?"

"My jack-o'-lanterns?" I looked at my porch. "They're carved pumpkins meant to scare away evil spirits on Samhain. We used to use turnips but I like pumpkins more."

"Samhain?"

"Halloween?" I signed. "Kids dress up in costume and go door to door for candy?" I had thought monsters were on the surface longer than on year, given what I'd learned of monster history.

"That sounds interesting," Papy signed. "I'd like to see it."

"It's only a week away," I said. "I've already got my costume."

Papy's eyes lit up. "Adults can participate?!"

"Of course," I signed. "Adults will hand out candy or go to parties. While most trick or treating is reserved for children, their is plenty of things for adults too. I'll have a bonfire myself for Samhain since I need to purify my house anyway."

"Purify?" Papy signed. "You need to clean your house?"

"A little more on the magic side but essentially yes," I nodded.

"Oh! Human magic is always fun to see!"

I chuckled. "I have to go shower Papy. It was good to talk to you."

"You too," Papy smiled. "And don't forget to talk to my brother. He won't admit it but I think he misses you."

I nodded and smiled. "Of course, Papy." I went inside the house.

## this time skip fills you with procrastination ##

I started at my phone for a good ten minutes before I finish pushed send on a message that just said "hi."

Instantly I received a "hi" back.

I let out a slow breath as I typed "I'm sry about how our date ended."

"Me 2."

I rubbed the back of my head. "I'd give it a shot again if you'd like. I won't drag you somewhere you don't want to be this time."

"Rly? I was worried you h8d me for ruining your show..."

"Ofc I don't hate you!" I sent back. "I was really hoping that you'd text me to try again or tell me a joke or something. I like your jokes."

"I'm glad."

The chat went silent for a few minutes before I texted, "I talked to Papy today. He's never heard of Halloween. Would you want to come over for a Halloween party? I'm thinking of inviting Toriel and Alphys too."

"We'll all be there."

All? I wondered. Is someone other than the skeletons at the house right now? I don't see any cars. Do any of them drive?

"Great," I sent back, snuggling into my blankets for the night.
