I opened the mail box to find a fancy looking invite. I took it inside and cut it open. It was a wedding invitation with Undyne and Alphys's engagement photo on the front.
I smiled as I opened it. They'd clearly done them by hand. I wrote in the date on my calendar, glad to already have that day off of work since it was only a week away.
As I looked at my calendar, finally changing the month properly rather than just flipping October up, I saw the date for my cochlear implant activation. The day before the wedding. This was going to be the most beautiful ceremony I'd ever been to.

Sans and I stood on my porch as a snow storm moved in. "Melody," Sans signed. "I... I had so much fun with you today. I want... I wanted to ask you something.
"What's that?" I asked.
"Well I wanted to know if... If you wanted to make this official. Being a couple, I mean."
I smiled and nodded. "Yeah. That sounds nice."
Relief seemed to flow through him. "I'm glad."
I opened my door, excited for the appointment tomorrow. I'd decided to keep it a surprise for now. The monsters had a habit of throwing dinner parties for little accomplishments, like Frisk getting an A in spelling, as well as the big things. I hadn't had to cook dinner in nearly a week. I could only imagine what a wedding would be like. I turned back to say goodbye to Sans.
Unsure if it was doing anything correctly for this skeleton that I really liked, I leaned in and kissed him.
Sans stood in surprise for a second before a lopsided smile crossed his face. "Bye, doll."
"Bye, Sans," I signed before closing the door behind me.

I spotted Sans in the crowd and made my way to my boyfriend. "Sans." I signed. I was loving the music and the sound and hearing my friends voices for the first time but I decided to wait to tell them that since they'd worked so hard to accommodate me, even hiring a human interpreter. Telling everyone about my new hearing was something that could wait for tomorrow. It shouldn't overshadow the happy couple.
"Melody," Sans smiled. "I was looking for you."
I smiled. Even San's didn't yet know I could hear him, dispite his voice being my favorite. "Are you drinking ketchup?"
"What else would it be?" Sans asked before taking a sip.
"A Bloody Mary?" I joked. This was an alcohol free event.
"Why?" Sans joked. "Cuz Al and Undyne are finally getting bloody married?"
I laughed at the bad joke. Sans was always fast on the uptake even when it was my attempt as a bad marriage joke.
Sans looked slightly confused or concerned as he looked at me. "Are you doing okay?"
I quirked an eyebrow in confusion. "Yeah. Never better. Why?"
"It's... Nevermind." Sans looked away. "I wonder," he said to himself, "what's up with her..."
"Everyone," Toriel called waving her arms and signing. "Undyne is going to throw the bouquet! All unmarried women, please line up!"
I smiled as I joined the others on the dance floor. Undyne made determined eye contact with me as though seeking a location. She took a deep breath and threw the bouquet like a fast ball at me. I caught it in the stomach like a punch and fell to the ground.
"Oops." Undyne ran to help me up. "Are you okay?" She signed.
"I'm okay," I signed, catching my breath. "That's not how you throw the bouquet..." I smiled at the flowers in my hand.
"U-U-Undyne, that was t-t-too much," Alphy studdered to her wife.
"Well, she caught it, didn't she," Undyne retorted as she helped me up.
I chuckled to myself as I held the gold flowers. "Thank you, Undyne," I smiled as Sans made sure I wasn't hurt, a blue glow in his eye socket.
"If you hurt her I swear to the stars-" Sans let out a sigh from behind me. "Don't be so rough," Sans growled protectively from where I couldn't see him. "She's not made of metal."
"Sorry," Undyne muttered, turning away from me.
It made me wonder just how often they spoke like that - in a way I couldn't see.
Sans put his arm around my waist as a slow dance song faded in. Slow music wasn't as much fun as base filled music - I liked being able to feel the music more than hearing it - but dancing was more fun with music.
Sans and I danced to the music. I smiled as I breathed in his scent. "I love you, Melody," Sans whispered to himself. "So why do I have so much trouble telling you..."
I stopped myself from chuckling. How often had he said he loved me that I couldn't hear him? How many times had I missed his protective nature and sweet words because I couldn't hear him? My thoughts were interupted by a yawn. I'd found in the last few days that hearing really was a lot of work. It was exhausting.
I smiled at him and kissed him. "I love you, Sans," I signed.
Sans paused for a moment. "I love you too," he signed with a smile.
I grabbed his hand and pulled him towards our seats so I could put down my flowers.
Sans was talking to himself in a low voice. "Wow... She actually said it first. I can't believe she loves me. She's so pretty and I'm nothin' but a bag of bones but she actually said it!"
"Sans," I smiled as I whispered in his ear, "I can hear you."
Sans pulled away from me and stared. "What?" I moved my hair aside to show off the one working implant, the one in my left ear having failed to work. His jaw dropped and with a pop sound he disappeared.
I looked around as others looked in my direction. I shrugged and shook my head in confusion as I threw up my hands.
"Where'd Sans go?" Undyne asked.
"D-d-do you think he finally told Melody what h-h-he was thinking?" Alphys asked her wife.
"Must not have gone well," Undyne muttered, "if his response was to disappear."
I looked at my phone as it vibrated in my pocket. It was Sans. "I'm sorry I disappeared. I got scared for a second."
"Scared?"
"Surprised is a better word. How long have you been able to hear me?"
"Just today?" I typed. "I just got the implants turned on yesterday."
"I'll come back." Sans reappeared infront of me. "Sorry," he signed. "I was just surprised."
"That's okay," I signed back. "Where did you go?"
"My safe place," Sans admitted. "The house back in Snowdin. But I promise I didn't mean to. It just kinda happened."
"That's okay," I smiled with a yawn. "You came back. That's what matters to me."
"We should get you home, doll," Sans said, standing. "I'll let Undyne know and we can go."
I nodded.
"Hey, Undyne!" Sans yelled. "Melody and I are bone tired so we're going to head home."
Undyne gave a thumbs up and we left.
