Reis had no hesitation. He knew when it came down to it, he would lose his life for his captain, he just didn't think the time would come so soon.

On the chaotic battlefield, he searched for his captain, who he had been separated from for a little while they fought separate opponents.

The ground started to shake, he looked towards the source, WhiteBeard. The earth started to crack open, approaching the unknowing captain.

Reis's legs started carrying him before he knew it.

"No no no no no no-!" Reis repeated, hoping he'd make it in time.

(M/N) suddenly felt a force push him to the ground.

"Oi-!" (M/N) turned to confront them, but was met with Reis at his feet, hanging on for dear life to avoid falling into the scorching lava down below at the world's center.

"REIS!" (M/N) rushed over to help, but was struck by a stray bullet, hitting his arm.

"FUCK!" (M/N) screamed as he collapsed in front of the shocked Reis.

"(M/N)! STAY THERE!" Reis commanded.

"STAY?! ARE YOU INSANE? WHAT ABOUT YOU?" (M/N) asked.

"I'M... IT'S OK. GO AHEAD!" Reis furrowed his eyes, looking down below and gulping.

"WHAT? NO!" (M/N) wobbled upwards and grabbed Reis's wrists with both hands, wincing at the pain in his arm.

"You're hurt! LET GO!" Reis screamed.

"NO NO NO! I'M NOT LETTING YOU GO, SHUT UP!" (M/N) struggled to keep his stance, exhausted. He squeezed his eyes shut and pulled. The wound in his arm started bleeding out faster.

"YOU NEED TO LET GO!" Reis started to tear up, as did (M/N).

"I CAN SAVE YOU!" Another bullet hit his knee. He fell to his knees in pain, his grip started slipping.

"It's... It's gonna be ok. (M/N), it's ok to let me go. Please just let me go." Reis started crying, sobbing even, not wanting to see his best friend be shot anymore.

(M/N)'s eyes shot wide, not believing his friends words.

"B-but! You're gonna DIE!" (M/N) argued as he tried once more. Reis's tears hit the lava as he looked away. He gulped.

"I know... but... YOU NEED TO LIVE! LIVE AS YOU PLEASE, DO IT. FOR ME." Reis cried out as he gazed into his best friends shot eyes.

"I CAN'T DO THAT WITHOUT YOU! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME!" (M/N) panicked as he felt his grip slipping. His eyes shot around trying to look for a solution.

"It's ok. I'm not leaving. Live, for me, ok?I... I love you, good bye." Reis pushed his feet off the wall, breaking contact with (M/N).

He never thought his life would end so soon, but if it was to save his best friend, he believes it was worth it. As he fell into the scorching lava, he felt at peace, hoping (M/N) would complete his dream, their dream.

Throughout the battlefield, they didn't hear Luffy's scream of loss, but (M/N)'s, calling out to his best friend. Screaming his name that would be engraved into minds all around.
