carlos sat down at their lunch table, waiting for nini to arrive. as he saw her walk towards him, his eyes lit up.

"nin! get over here!" carlos waved over. she sat down next to him frantically, and let him continue.

"do you know what you're singing today?"

"oh yeah. when we were young." she announced, unpacking her lunch.

carlos tilted his head, "isn't that-"

"yeah. me and my dad's song." she smiled to herself. 

"i miss him a lot, and i know he'd be..so proud if he ever really got to see me sing. especially a song that was so special to us."

he smiled. "he'd be so happy."

nini felt her face grow red. "ugh!" she groaned

"enough with the sentimental stuff, what are you singing?"

"i was gonna do a piano version of carless whisper." he started. "my sister and i used to sing it all the time." he laughed.

"oh that's right!" nini remembered. "she goes to julliard now right?"

"yep." carlos responded, "i'm proud to say i'm the younger brother of a mt major at julliard."

"pretty big flex." nini joked along. "but, i can't wait to hear it."

"actually..we can go now? ms jenn always leaves the choir room unlocked."

"well then." nini said getting up, "what are we doing here?"

the two rushed off to the choir room, and nini beat carlos to the piano.

"ha!" she laughed. "i get to go first."

"fine." carlos gave in playfully. "do your thing."

nini smiled, and began to play the  song.

'..let me photograph, you in this light'

'in case it is the last time that we might,'

'be exactly like we were before we realized,'

'we were scared of getting old it made us restless'

'it was just like a movie.'

'it was just like a song.'

nini ended her piece, and carlos applauded. "god is there anything you can't do?"

"math." she answered bluntly.

"i appreciate your honesty." he joked. "my turn!"


'...tonight the music seems so loud'

'i wish that we could lose this crowd'

'maybe it's better this way'

'we'd hurt each other with the things we wanna say'

'we could've been so good together'

'we could've lived this dance forever'

'but now, who's gonna dance with me?'

'please stay.'

carlos finished, and nini frowned.

"no! don't stop." she begged.

"nope." he argued. "you're gonna have to wait to hear the rest."

she pouted, and the two laughed.
