After breakfast, Mara made her way back to her and Natasha's room. She walked in but soon stopped in her tracks. In front of her was her girlfriend sitting on the bed staring straight in front of her at the wall.
"Is the wall telling you an interesting story?" She asked as she made her way into the closet to grab a towel and clean clothes. Natasha just gave an awkward chuckle as she stood up and walked towards the door.
Mara furrowed her eyebrows. "Hey, you okay?" She asked in a serious tone. Natasha looked at her and tried to give her a reassuring smile. "Yeah, I'm fine." She said as she made her way out of the room.
Mara decided to ask about it later, but for now, she made her way to the shower. Meanwhile, Natasha made her way to the kitchen, where Steve was eating his pancakes.
"Good morning Nat" he smiled at her. "Morning." She murmured, clearly still deep in thought as she put a few pancakes on her plate. She went to sit across from Steve at the table.
"What's on your mind?" He asked her. He noticed her behaviour was off the moment she stepped in the kitchen.
The redhead sighed at the question. "It's nothing." She spoke, trying to avoid the conversation she was dreading.
"Come on Nat, I know something's up. You can tell me anything." He tried to reassure her.
"I constantly feel guilty about what I did to her. I can't stop thinking about it and every time I see her I get reminded of how I cheated with you."
"I know... Don't forget she's one of my closest friends and I was also in the wrong. What we did is both our faults, not just yours." He said as he was trying to take some of the blame away from her.
"When I saw her this morning I almost wanted to tell her what happened."
"Tell me what?" They heard as Mara made her way into the kitchen again. Steve and Natasha looked at each other like deer in headlights, not knowing what to say.
Mara looked at the two and immediately knew something was off. Why were they talking about her and what did they not want her to know?
"What are you guys talking about?" She asks, eyeing the two in front of her suspiciously.
"Oh, just a mission of which we weren't sure how much we could already share with you without Fury's permission." Natasha said nonchalantly. Mara knew it was BS just by looking at Steve's face. She just nodded and went back to her room.
She had to find out what they were talking about. What if they found something about her parents that they are hiding from her? The thought alone made her furious and she decided to take that anger out on the wall.
She punched the wall until her knuckles bled. All of her frustration from the past months was put into those punches. She knew she had to focus on knowing what happened to he parents. So, she made her way to the elevator and pressed the button for the floor where the cells are located.
