Adrenaline rushed through your veins like electrifying currents of a wire.
The cold night air blew through your hair, creating slight chills traveling down your neck. Your navy hoodie blew violently in the wind that surrounded your whole body. You held your hands up high and laughed with excitement. You couldn't help but smile like a little child.
'SPEED UP!' You cheered as Mikey pressed down on the gas pedal and increased the acceleration on his convertible.
The street lights glowed in the night, the contrast coming and going as you pass by one to the other.
You looked in front at the road running by and back at Mikey, who's fluffy, straight blonde hair was flowing in the breeze in the most majestic way possible. You felt a twinge of jealousy as you were suddenly reminded of how messily your hair was blowing.
His shiny black sunglasses were sitting on the middle of the bridge of his small nose, just enough to expose his dark, incomprehensible eyes...although this time he looked a bit relaxed in your perspective.
You couldn't tell if he was smiling or not from the darkness of the night that surrounded you and the slight exposure of light from the street lights, but you didn't hesitate to imagine that he was also having a great time in this moment.
In your mind, he was smiling.
From your peripheral vision, you could see Mikey's deep eyes avert to yours. You felt yourself smile at him, and you looked at the way his pearly whites gleamed and how his eyes smiled back before he looked back at the road.
Yup, he smiled this time.
The car zoomed through the late night, the cool wind blowing on your face. You hugged yourself tight, trying to keep yourself warm.
'I miss these kind of nights, don't you?' You said to Mikey and you clenched your fists. 'Kind of have faint memories of them though.' You felt a weird feeling in your stomach as flashes of old memories filled your brain.
'Yeah.' He said, looking down. He slowed the car down slightly and then looked at you when you weren't looking. He watched the way your eyes glowed at the surroundings you passed. He moved one hand onto your hand, gripping it in reaction to the chilly night. He rubbed your fingers gently before placing his hand back onto the steering wheel.
'Too bad that you've moved away.' You said as you turned your head towards the right, completely hiding your face from him.
Mikey hadn't answered you, but instead he interlocked his fingers with yours and held your hand tightly. You felt the pulse of his heart through his fingers, making you feel warm and welcome.
'What, I've missed my friend.' He said with a light chuckle, looking at the road still; not letting go of your hand. You gave a lighthearted smile.
Pretty bold move for someone I haven't seen since I was 16. Feels a bit out of context now that we're older.
Bits & pieces of faint memories of Mikey holding your hand in his when you were younger bubbled into your mind. Other memories of when you guys would watch Disney movies together and falling asleep together, him arguing over the last piece of pizza in the box when you snatched it, him tripping you down the stairs multiple times for his own satisfaction, diluted your mind. You have many pleasant memories and not-so-pleasant ones to remember.
All those memories throughout the years made you realized how lucky you were to have met someone as sweet as him. He may be dry sometimes, and a bit of a douchebag, but again, it's Mikey after all, and you absolutely adored him for that.
