Nabi laid awake in the cold night, wondering when she began to want Park Jae-eon. He was a mystery that she didn't bargain for. One minute, she was an accountant in training and a hidden artist with nothing but the friction between the two occupations and identities she possesses. The next, she was spread wide and licked dry by an insatiable human.
There was no correlation and it bugged her to the point of restlessness. It also didn't help that Bitna's voice echoed in her head like a resounding alarm reminding her of the dangers of the man she knew was trouble. She let out a strangled cry and threw the sheets off her legs whilst kicking the air.
The sudden light in the room brought her out of her tantrums and she turned to the source. Her phone lit up from her bedside and a message from the object of her thoughts popped up.
"Nabi, would you like to see a butterfly?"
A single sentence that unnerved her. She tossed the phone on the bed and closed her eyes. With the little sense of self respect she had, she weighed her options.
She could reply him and meet up. He'd take her to somewhere new, flirt endlessly and they'd end up in the same place with her on the bottom. Afterwards, she would wake up with regrets and a sense of foolishness hovering over her being.
You did it again.
Second option was to force herself into sleeping now and letting all thoughts float away with the wave of sleep. Sure, she'd wake up wet and needy but there will be a clear conscience. No regrets.
So why was she picking up her phone and typing a reply? She couldn't register when the decision was made.
"Where?"
"At Hawthorn."
She got down from the bed and walked towards her makeshift wardrobe. She pulled on a pair of jeans and an oversize shirt. She wore her favorite pair of sneakers and grabbed her keys, phone and hoodie before leaving her room.
Jae-eon and Nabi developed a habit of naming their meeting locations with code names to avoid possible prying eyes from figuring out what their plans or what it meant. His name on her phone was saved as Neverland. A name that she presumed would be a reminder to stay in check. Never to cross the line.
Hawthorn was particularly breezy that night as it always was. Her legs were wobbly as she prayed silently to not trip or else, she would be explaining her sins way too soon at the other side if there is an other side.
Finally, she got to the last step of the spiral staircase and gripped the railing with all her might as she closed the small space that separated them. "Hi", she breathed with vapour escaping out of her mouth.
He wrapped his arms around her small frame and kissed her hair. "Were you sleeping already?" She shook her head, unable to form coherent words as he stood way too close to her. How could someone who had probably spent the day busy still look this beautiful at night? It amazed her as much as it annoyed her. It was distracting.
"I was drawing a commissioned portrait." She lied. Apart from the people at the studio and Bitna, he was the only other person that knew about her passion for art.
"You are getting commissions now. I'm proud of you Nabi." He smiled and pushed stray strands of hair off her face. The cold air hissed and scattered her hair even worse than before. He laughed and she, fully mesmerized by his beautiful face captured by the moon's light laughed with him. She released the hand still gripping the railings for a second and fear creeped up her cold spine when she lost her footing whilst laughing. She gasped and returned the hand back to its original spot.
Jae-eon grabbed the hand and pulled her backwards towards the wall and sat. He brought her to sit in front of him and enveloped her in a tight hug that spread warmth all over her being. This feeling, is why she left her room. She realized and sighed.
They chatted about several things and he muttered sweet nothings in her ear.
"Nabi. Nabi. You calm the storm and bring clarity to my fog."
She inhaled the words and let it comfort her confused mind. The words accompanied with his hands tracing circles on her stomach turned her on. She knew without a doubt that her sensitive part was soaking her panties now.
As if on cue, he whispered again. "You must be wet." And she spun so quickly, she almost broke her neck. How did he know her body so much? He smirked and turned her back to the way she was before biting the top of her ear. The act sent her heart almost leaping out of her chest. She was glad her face was hidden from his view, so he wouldn't see her pink cheeks.
She began telling him about her trip to the store with Bitna without including his name being a subject. She mentioned Bitna's outburst about the dresses before his phone buzzed silencing her.
He brought out the phone and swiped up. She took the initiative to stand up and he followed suit. He returned the phone but his expression changed. His face was filled with sympathy which announced what was coming next.
"Nabi, I'm sorry but I have to go." She attempted to form a lie. Anything to keep her shattering dignity from completing disappearing but the words never got out. He pecked her lips before running down the metal staircase.
Despite the hoodie, when the cold air hissed again, she felt it in her bones. She stood bare in front of the cold night and gazed far at the buildings inside the university from the third floor.
Alone.
