Nabi chose Do-Hyeok.
The decision had come through days of thinking and thinking and thinking. The proposal was too abrupt! Heck! She thought so much her brain would have called for a time out if it could speak. But after a couple of days alone and soaking in the sunshine, she concluded.
There was much to explore in Paris and it would be foolish to let it all go. Also, wasn't it termed a blessing to have someone willing to share their life with you? She may not be a church person but she believed in recognizing the blessings of life.
This dream, the life she had, there was no reason to do it alone. She could do it with a friend, a lover or a husband.
And so she reached out to pick up the little box on her bedside table. The jewellery sparkled in the afternoon sun. She removed it and passed it through her ring finger. A perfect fit it seemed.
Then, she raised her hand to the sun and took a picture of it.
With the picture attached, she typed a message to Do-Hyeok.
Oui, let's get married.

With her response came drastic changes in her life. First, Do-Hyeok had been excited but most of all, shocked. He had thought that maybe she was kidding or perhaps, had not yet grasped the context of the proposition in detail to understand the commitment.
Though he didn't say it aloud, Nabi could read between the lines and fish out the unvoiced statement or question. Before he eventually asked her.
"What about Jae-eon?"
Truly, what about him? The love or relationship they had shared was nothing more than a string of rope that she held on to, like a child at Christmas waiting for Santa. It was no more delusional than that child hoping Santa would take away all their problems. Still, Nabi couldn't deny that she was attached to Jae-eon. Or that she still ached for something else with him.
However, that child would eventually grow up and learn to face reality. The reality that what they thought was real wasn't and learned to accept what was real. Maybe, create a better future for it. So she replied;
"Jae-eon is in the past. You are now my present and eventually, my future." She squeezed his hands when she finished speaking.
The moment was interrupted when Nabi's mother called her in to ask yet again why they were rushing to have the wedding in a week. And this brought her to the second change. She travelled back to Korea for the wedding which they had decided to have within a week.
"A week wouldn't be enough to get the information across to all the church women! Why can't both of you shift it back to two weeks? Huh?" Her mother complained.
And Nabi being helpless in the scene would repeat the statement she had been saying for the past five days. "We need to set up in Paris as quickly as possible. Besides, you want to invite the world. I don't! I already have everyone I need."
But that changed nothing. Her mother continued lamenting while her father was always conveniently out of the picture whenever issues arose. One would think that Nabi marrying the man her mother wanted would bring them fewer problems but even that still seemed like a farfetched idea.
In truth, Nabi did have everything she wanted.
Do-Hyeok had chosen her wedding dress and shoes online, and she had already received them. It took all Nabi had not to scream at the intensity of the outfit, which was a full ball gown with terrifying pearl stones embroidered on every conceivable surface.
Her initial response? She despised it. And Bitna wasted no valuable time by giggling at the spectacle. But when Nabi put it on, she thought it was comfortable. She had a princess-like figure thanks to the garment, which gripped her upper body and spread out like tentacles.
