The world of this book is inspired by various European and Asian folklores and myths. There are Kingdoms ruled by Kings and Queens who are all under the Empress. The royal blood has magical abilities. It is said that the Empress made each King and Queen — the High Royals — by collecting the great powers from different universes and personifying them. Clearly, the High Royals are Gods among the mortals. New royals often come into being in accordance to the will of the universe and the Empress is the one who creates a whole new Kingdom for them.

The High Royals need to wait for their soulmates to be born as mortals. It might take aeons for them to find their destined person. Till then, they have their desires sated by their share of mortals though. The High Royals can not produce children, for they are immortals, they were never children themselves.

Around the early days of this world, the Empress got to know about the next world and how it will be created. One of the High Royals will become the Emperor or the Empress of the new world with their destined partner. That pair will be able to procreate as the current Empress did. But nobody knows which High Royal will be the one to ascend.
