"Little you know, little you care."
- from a Les Miserables song
"Please reply."
"What." This is the last time, she promised. After this, she was going to seenzone him forever.
He mentally took a deep breath. "I've—I've been so confused about you two...and..."
"And I'm not being fair to both of you, stringing you along, going back and forth."
"So you liked me." A statement, not a question.
His chest hurt, but he pushed it down. He had to say what he had to say. Well, type what he had to type. "And...I realize why I like both of you now."
"Okay." Her stomach felt like something was mixing its contents around and around. In a nice way.
"So, both of you are, like, almost the same. You both like the same stuff and read the same stuff and all that girly-girly stuff."
"I wouldn't describe myself as girly-girly." An attempt at humor. This was it. He was about to pick a road.
"You were just my classmate. Then she came. I liked her, a lot." It was hurting her, he knew. But she needed the closure. It would be good for her, later. For both of them.
"I know." Of course she knew.
"I didn't know how to talk to her and she was just confusing me. That was why I started talking to you."
"Then I started talking to you because you were cool and...because you reminded me of her."
"oh." She was nothing but a carbon copy. A ghost of what he really wanted.
"I think I liked you at some point...because you both seemed the same...but I talked to you more...but..."
"When you told me you liked me...I realized how...you must have felt...and...then I knew."
"Should I still say it?"
"Just to be sure." She really liked hurting herself. 'Just to be sure'? She was pretty sure he was sure.
"I liked you because you were like Tayla."
A reply after a week. "At least I'll be out of your way."
"What?"
Seen at 7:34 pm. She excused herself from the table and stayed in her room all night.
And she was out of their way.
