They were teenagers, 12 or 13 when they met for the first time, more like bumped into each other for the first time. Even at that age, Samuel was very peculiar about his surroundings, and the smell had caught his attention. After apologizing and helping her with her belonging, he was about ask her about it, when the bell rang and the girl sprinted away from him.

Since then he tried to find the girl every day for a few weeks, but it was of no use. It seemed as if she had disappeared from the face of the earth. He had given up hope of finding her ever again, when he bumped into her again at the same place, at the same time of the day. He helped her again, but this time held her wrist before she could run away.

Girl: Let go!

Samuel: What is your name?

Girl: Why do you want to know?

Samuel: Well, maybe if we introduced ourselves, we would stop meeting like this.

Girl: .....

Samuel: So??

Girl; (with a sigh): Rachaita. Now let go! (She tugged her hand again. )

Samuel: Glad to meet you. My name is Samuel.

Rachaita: Nice to meet you too. Now can you let me go? I'm gonna be late for class.

Samuel: (still holding her wrist) Which class are you in?

Rachaita: Mr. Scott's. Now let go!!!

Samuel let her go and she quickly ran towards her class. He stood there watching her go until she turned at the end of the corridor. He wasn't sure what was wrong with him, but he was absolutely mesmerized by that smell and the girl that came with it. He went in the opposite direction to his own class all while deciding on how to meet her again.

He started going to Mr. Scott's class and stood outside waiting for the girl to appear. He would always smile when they saw each other, while she would always run away, thinking him as a creep. This went on for a few days, before she decided, running was not effective, so she approached him.

Rachaita: What are you doing here?

Samuel: Hi Rachaita, how are you doing?

Rachaita (with an annoyed sigh): I'm good. Now answer me. What are you doing here?

Samuel: Waiting for you?

Rachaita: Why?

Samuel: Because that's friends do. They wait for each other and hang out together.

Rachaita: (with a scowl on her face): We are not friends.

Samuel: Well, I want to be your friend, so how about we hang out together at the little Italian place nearby after school.

Rachaita: I'm busy today

Samuel: Tomorrow then.

Rachaita: Busy tomorrow as well

Samuel: When are you free then?

Rachaita: (with a smirk on her face): Never

Samuel: (with a sweet smile): Okay then, see you here tomorrow.

Rachaita: (Now absolutely annoyed with him): Fine today. And then you stop following me.

Samuel: Today it is.

And then they went separate ways.

But after that meet, Rachaita found out that he is not really a creep and they actually became friends. They started hanging out together and slowly but steadily they grew closer. Close enough that by the end of the year everyone thought that they were dating, though neither of them would confirm it.

They both started caring for each other more than just friends but were both afraid. Finally, when she was cooking her famous lentil soup for him, Samuel said:

Samuel: I wish you would cook for me every day for the rest of my life.

They were both shocked by this confession. But before Samuel could pull it back and make some excuses, Rachaita replied

Rachaita: Well, I wish for that too.

They both looked at each other across the counter with glint in their eyes and a smile on their faces. Samuel walked across and closed the distance between them and stood just a foot away from her and asked:

"Do you really mean that."

Rachaita just nods as her reply.

Samuel: I need you to answer me verbally.

Rachaita: Yes. I do.

Samuel: I hope I'll hear these words again from you when we are standing at the altar.

With this he leans in and is about to kiss her, when they hear the jiggling of the keys indicating the arrival of her step-father. They both stepped away, as he was a man of anger. Neither of them were fond of him. He had never done anything directly, but there was something about the way he looked at Rachaita that rubbed the wrong way with Samuel. He always wanted to take her away from the man, but he was too young to be taken seriously or to do something himself.
