Tom

"Although I would love to take you home, I'd like it more if you came over to mine and watched a movie with me."

"Okay. Sounds great." Doug said with a smile. God, I love that smile. We finally got to my apartment and we lay down on the couch for a while. Another one of those comfortable silences. I get up to use the bathroom and when I came back into the living room, Doug was looking through my VHS tapes on the ground. He picks out an old home video from when I was little. It was from the Christmas before my dad died.

"Hey, Doug. Whatcha doin'?"

"I was wondering if we could watch this tape?" He holds up the tape and all the memories come rushing back to me.

I try not to cry so I just say "Sure. Sounds good."

Doug

We went back to Tom's place and I chose a tape to watch. I asked Tom if we could watch it and although he said yes he looked sad.

"It's okay we can watch something else." I said sympathetically. I could tell he was on the verge of tears. I got up from the middle of the room where I was sitting and walked over to him, pulling him into a big bear hug. He cried softly into my shoulder.

"My dad died a little while after that tape was made." Tom whispered between sobs. After that, I hugged him tighter.

"I-I'm sorry. I just met you and- and I'm telling you my whole life story." He apologized for no reason..

"Oh- Tom. You didn't do anything wrong." I said softly into his ear.
