Clad in his usual light blue hoodie, Jonathan jogged out of his house and closed the door behind him, leaving a silent click.

The morning wasn't very much of a bright one. It was still dark, with the last streak of twilight barely hanging on the far edge of the horizon and no clear signs of the sun that would come up any moment from that second. The neighboring houses were still so peaceful Jonathan almost couldn't believe that he was living in the same neighborhood.

He took off on his black Converse sneakers to accomodate his freezing toes - his bedroom's heater wasn't fixed yet, so Autumn air literally froze him out until the tips of his toes could no longer feel the floor below him. Sinking his neck further down into his hoodie, he tried to overlook the distinct house of his neighbor, Tyler, which had the color of a dark camouflaging bush, and it was the only house that had the darkest of colors among the pink and cream-colored ones (and that included Jonathan's house - his mom had adviced him not to paint the exterior of his house using dark shades).

It wasn't exactly the right time for him to jog, by the way. His teeth were chattering like crazy, and he was trying to keep up with his own steps as if he were too lost in a bad hangover. He was about to stop when someone suddenly bumped him on the shoulder. On full intentional, he assumed, because the force was so great he stumbled on his own shoes and made him continue his steps.

Jonathan sighed out heavily onto the cold inner-side of the metal mask that was covering his face wholly (to avoid risking the others around him to freak out). He glanced at the figure in front of him slowly turning around at him whilst running backwards without giving much notice to the front, black sunglasses perched on the bridge of his nose and a guilty grin plastered on his face.

"You okay, bro?," he asked casually, his red parachute jacket rustling noisily and breath producing puffs of momentary white clouds, "I'm sorry I bumped you earlier. My stupid sunglasses blocked the view, so I didn't see you."

Jonathan rolled his eyes. Evan was simply playing with his flirty trump card again. "Really, Evan? It's only your fourth day after the release from jail and now you're going to make me fuckin' faceplant onto the asphalt?," he said bluntly, keeping his eyes on anything in front of him but Evan and trudged towards the paved sidewalk, "and I'm not that invisible. Stop flirtin' with me, and get out of my way. Your presence sickens me."

"Hey, I'm not flirting with you, Jonathan. I'm just-"

"-hittin' up on me?"

"Yeah, hittin' up on you."

Jonathan rolled his eyes, and it was too late for Evan to realize his mistake when Jonathan picked up his own pace and ran past the latter nonchalantly.

"No. Wait. Stop. Jonathan-"

"No, Evan. You stop. Alright? I don't want to hear any of your nonsensical flirtatious jokes anymore. It gets me really, really tired," Jonathan said, abruptly stopping and turned around to finally face Evan and looked at him in the eye, making the latter instantly stopped jogging too. Evan might not see his creasing forehead, but the blazing hateful look on his eyes was crystal clear enough for Evan to see.

Evan sighed out loud, and eventually surrendered by stating, "alright, I'll stop. But, you better come and check out the party that's being held in our house tonight."

Jonathan's eyes lit up a bit. A party? That would also mean that he could meet up with David, right? His own body and his heart were totally going to race for the party. Ignoring Evan for the whole night wasn't going to be too hard to do, either.

"It's perfectly fine if you don't want to go. We'll let Carlos know that we have a space for him in the party to squeeze in."

"Don't. I'll come," Jonahan replied a second too quick, but still managed to lift Evan's hopes up in the sky. He just wished Evan hadn't thought that he had more chances because Jonathan could break his heart more than necessary, and that wouldn't go pretty. "And don't expect me to be elated with the idea of you pointing out things as ours. It's your house, not mine."

Evan grinned widely, giving the other two thumbs up and said, "great! See you tonight, Jonathan! 8 p.m. Our house! I bet everyone will be expecting you!"

On the other hand, Jonathan had failed to hit himself with a hammer of realization that Evan was actually one step ahead of him.

Just one last look to the mirror, Jonathan. One. Last. Look.

Jonathan fixed his mask again, making sure that he wouldn't look like an eyesore of the year in the party. Checkered shirt sure fit him well, but his goddamn jeans were killing him. He knew it. He was still growing like a five-year-old.

No, it was his stomach that grew, not his height, and now the tight jeans were pressing him and his waist to the point that he couldn't feel his own stomach, as if he were up to a very strict diet program. His dog was watching at him wriggling his hips in discomfort with those beady, judging eyes, and Jonathan prayed to God so that David wouldn't notice him too much like his dog did.

8 p.m. Time to release his party animal side.
