I woke up to a loud knock on my door. It's summer break of my 8th grade year and I have no clue why I would have to wake up this early. "Yallah (come on) Khadija ! wake up we are going to Friday prayer!" my mom yelled as she rushed in my room and yanked the blanket off me . I felt the cold breeze splash my now bare skin, sending shivers running down my spine. "ughh! leave me alone." I groaned as I rolled over. The bed just felt so comfortable , we had the perfect relationship right now. As I slowly closed my eyes to rest back into sleep, my eyes shot open and realization hit me. It's Friday! A few seconds later I jumped out of bed completely awake. I don't know how I forgot that today indeed is Friday. Friday is the Muslim holy day and my whole family goes to the mosque together to pray. I've always enjoyed going, it's so peaceful when you are praying and all your worries just escape from your mind at that time. It spiritually relaxes me and makes me worry less about the real world. You could say this is most definitely my favorite day of the week "OH MY GOD! I forgot!" I screamed as I ran out of my room towards the bathroom to start getting ready. I don't want to miss it today. "Hurry up! you only have 20 minutes." my mom informed me while I was in the middle of a mission. We are always late since I am Sudanese and I swear if you tell my parents to meet you in a place at 3:00 pm, expect them to be there two hours later. This time , I'm not going to let that happen. I quickly took a shower, brushed my teeth, and tied up my hair. I wrapped a towel around myself then ran into my room to do the hardest task of my morning so far; finding something to wear. Since I started wearing the hijab the begining of the summer, finding something to wear has become ten times harder. I first have to find something loose, long sleeved and covering appropriately. then I have to find a scarf to match with the outfit. I'm not that big into looking fashionable but I like to dress up a bit whenever leaving the house. I figured today is not really the day to look all in style after 5 minutes of looking in my closet. I finally decided on a mint green colored t-shirt with a black cardigan on top and a pair of bootcut jeans. After that, I quickly wrapped around a black scarf because let's be honest, black goes with everything, especially for scarves.I was finally finished getting dressed and I darted downstairs, tripping on the way down. Everyone was already out the door.
"Lock the door!" My mom yelled. I dif that and I quickly got in the car and we drove away.
