the blackest day / chapter thirteen

Sleep hadn't come easy for Blair. She knew what today was and wasn't looking forward to it. She laid down on her bed, eye rolling at the latest talk on Gossip Girl when she heard the voice of Dorota call her from a distance. "Miss Blair!"

"I'm right here, Dorota." Blair responded in a worn out tone as she dramatically tossed her phone on her nightstand. "No need to yell."

"Sorry, Miss Blair." Dorota quickly apologized, looking down as she spoke to her. "Someone is here to see you."

Blair furrowed her eyebrows, her expression going from confused to unpleasant once she saw the familiar face of someone she wasn't expecting pop out of nowhere -- especially today, of all days.

"Riley." Blair huffed, fiddling with her hair while her eyes stayed locked on his. "What an unexpected surprise. I wish I could say it was a nice one."

Riley grinned at Blair's comment, finding it amusing rather than offensive. He always liked that about her, given he was always into girls that treated him like that. "Kinda had a feeling you wanted to see me."

The brunette scoffed, turning to Dorota who stood there waiting for a response. "You can go now, Dorota. Thank you."

After waiting for Dorota to close the door behind them, Riley launched over to Blair's bed and began kissing her — which Blair quickly shut down. "Riley, we can't do this anymore."

It wasn't the first time Blair had said this, so Riley was sure it wouldn't be the last either. So he continued kissing her neck as he touched her body up. "Sure, princess."

"Riley, I'm serious!" Blair hollered as she pushed the boy off the bed. "I'm with Nate."

Riley seemed defeated with no words while sitting on the hard floor. The more he thought about it, the harder it was for him to resist laughing. But of course his ego took the best of him, when he grinned devilishly with his eyes still on the floor and his arms on his knees.

"Well, I was also coming to drop off your invention for tonight." He stood up, reaching for his pocket and throwing a crumbled up but fancy invitation on the bed. "I'm sure my sister would love to see you."

"Riley—"

"And don't worry, I'm sure Nate will get an invite too." He said, trying not to say something stupid, but he did so anyway. "From my sister."
