Birthday Gift

Summary:
Boys outside her class and even outside the hero course knew when her birthday was. They would buy such expensive gifts to please her, flowers to signify their love towards her and do everything they can to court her. However, no expensive and extravagant gift can outmatch the gift given to her by someone special to her.

“Here, Yaoyorozu-san! I bought a necklace for you with a heart-shaped jewel on it!”

“Happy Birthday, Yaoyorozu-san! I bought a cupcake from the best bakery in town.”

“Yaoyorozu-san, I know how much you love tea so I bought some for you on your birthday!”

          She didn’t realize how many students outside of the hero course knew her birthday. Momo was quite surprised to find out that the numerous gifts she was given were too much for her to bring back to the dorms all on her own.

Momo is very aware how much guys were fond of her. She would often hear gossip coming from others saying that there would be boys planning to ask her out or would want to confess to her.

She appreciates that every one of them liked her and saw her that way, but she sadly couldn’t reciprocate them. It’s not that Momo had no interest at all towards them, but she really has made no interaction with any of the guys that gave her these gifts.

Oftentimes, Momo would sadly have to break the ice and just tell them in person how she feels with all honesty. A majority would mostly be sad but would continue to still admire and support her which was a good sign to her.

Plus, she already liked someone.

          Her friends were willing to help carry some of her gifts back to the dorms. Momo will still continue to keep them as they are gifts on her birthday. Once she was outside of the classroom and already walking back to their dorms, Yosetsu came up to her.

She blushed when she saw his presence. It only made matters worse when her heart sped up its beating as he walked closer to her.

Momo slowly grew to like the boy over time to the point she started to crush on him which made it quite obvious within her friends. She was quite glad that Yosetsu hadn't taken notice of it, but Momo does sometimes wish he could get a bit of a gist on what he feels towards him.

“Hey Yaoyorozu-san, I heard it was your birthday today,” he said.

She smiled and nodded, “Yes! Quite a lot of our schoolmates remembered it and gave me gifts. My friends are helping me carry them.” She held the bag of gifts in her hands, showing that there were a lot more than just the ones she’s holding.

“Oh I see, well I didn’t really prepare a gift for you cause I didn’t know your birthday was today, but I would like you to treat you some ice cream later if you want,” he suggested as a hint of blush slowly became visible on his cheeks.

Momo was quite shocked yet she soon formed a smile as she was happy by the idea, “Y-Yes..!! I’d like that a lot, Awase-san.”

“Great! Then I’ll wait for you later,” he smiled.

However, a sudden thought came in her head. Was he asking her out? Surely not, Yosetsu is just treating her to something sweet to eat on her special day. But..what if he is asking her on a date?

“Wait, is this...a date..?” Momo asked. She slowly soon regretted asking that, knowing it would make a fool out of herself.

Yosetsu blushed a bright red and asked her, “Do you...want it to be a date..?”

          Should she say yes? No? What should she answer? To Momo, it’s such an open opportunity and if she doesn’t say yes that Yosetsu treating her to ice cream is a date, how could she possibly be closer to him?

          However, the possibility of him not liking her the same way is still in the back of her mind. What if he doesn’t want it to be a date? But what if he does? Momo is only given such a short and simple question, yet what it contains is so much more than that.

Momo shyly nodded, actually liking the idea of having her first date on her birthday.

He softly smiled and replied, “Then a date it is! See you later, birthday girl.”

“S-See you,” she replied back.

As soon as Yosetsu was far enough, Momo could still feel her smile still there as she stood in place watching him walk off with his other classmates.

“Ooooo~ Yaomomo, who made you smile like that?” Mina smirked which caught Momo off guard.

“Ashido-san..!! You scared me,” she said.

Mina laughed and said, “Sorry, Yaomomo. You were just smiling there in place while watching Awase walk off. I just assumed something interesting happened between you too.”

Momo couldn’t really hide much if Mina saw all of that, it seemed enough for her to get the gist on what was happening. She sighed and replied, “He and I are going on a date.”

This made Mina quite shocked by what her friend just said, “Wait, are you serious?”

Momo excitedly nodded, “Yeah! Later, he wanted to treat me to ice cream because he didn’t know it was my birthday today. I asked if it was a date cause it felt like one, but he was actually okay that hanging out later is a date!!”

“Wow Yaomomo, you’re really excited about this,” Mina chuckled.

“How can I not? It’s a date with Awase-san after all,” she said.

“Well then, spill me the deets once you come back!!” Mina demanded jokingly and Momo laughed.

“Sure,” Momo laughed.

Momo and her friends soon left their classroom and walked back to the dorms. As they were walking, she then thought to herself, A date with Awase-san on my birthday? This might be the best birthday gift I’ve gotten.
