loving and leaving
"marry the man you love," they say,
but what's the point in that?
love makes you weak
susceptible, vulnerable, penetrableall your soft spots open
just waiting for a the serrated edge of
a knife to cut you open
and let you bleed"marry the man who loves you," they say,
but what's the point in that?
his love becomes a burden
a sickening expectation of unfulfilled promiseeverything you do
becomes a duty,
heavy hearts and pitying smiles
that drive you both insane"don't love at all!", they say,
but what's the point in that?
one carries that hole in their heart
for ever and a dayknowing that half of their soul,
wanders the earth
near, and yet ever so far. And
as you look into the eyes of each one you meet, you wonder...
"are you the one?"
but the overpowering fear
will never let you find out."love them and leave them," they say
but what's the point in that?
that gaping hole will never be filled
for you'd never let yourself get that closeand what's the point of a few days
living in the high of happiness
only to crash harder each time someone leavesLove.
no wonder everyone is so confused,
so conflicted, so curious.
yes, it's real. I know that.but you'll only ever know
when they leave
and I'm tired of standing in the cold, and watching them go.***
