Ameera

Walking out carefully, I lift my skirts so they do not scrape against the dirty ground. Next to me, my half sisters, Avery and Hazel, bicker about the job we were sent to do. I silence them with a cold, hard stare before bumping into a body. Turning around, I stifle a scream as I see our father dangling from a tree. His eyes staring straight ahead, his head cocked to the side. What was worse was the fact his heart was torn out of his chest. Following the trial of blood, we find our cousin, Sophia by the great Oak, sobbing.

"What is wrong, Sophia?" Avery asks, really worried at the sight.

"I am so sorry. Please accept my apology! I never meant to hurt any of you!" Sophia weeps as she turns to face us, her lips having a trail of dark blood and her hands covered in the same liquid.

"What have you done?" I screech as I see a heart at rest by her feet.

"Ameera, I triggered the troubles in our family! I had to end it! So I thought I would kill Uncle since he has the man to have it. I was only looking out!" Sophia frantically explains but Hazel shakes her head in sorrow, "Sophia, you trigger the troubles only when you kill someone in the family. We can never end our troubles because ending ours would mean everyone else's would start. We are the sponge that takes away the troubles until the chosen one is recharged. It is our way of life. You just started it early, though."

Sophia's brown eyes widen at the thought and she whispers, "When do we start?"

"Right now, ladies, you shall be awaken when you are needed. Have a good sleep, til then." A tall black man appears before our eyes closed and we are taken into a deep sleep.
