THE ART OF BLENDING in amongst a crowd who sees nothing but your failures can take a toll on any person alone. The art of being invisible can help lessen such feelings of shame and doubt within oneself after having to deal with such dysfunctional crowds on a day to day basis.

For two centuries, Nyx had become accustomed to being alone. After the incident in Mesopotamia, she was informed by the prime eternal that if she were to step out of line again, she was to be removed from the team and sent back home to Olympia by order of the prime celestial.

Ikaris had overheard the news from afar—unbeknownst to Nyx—and ever since then has kept a close eye on her, waiting for her to slip up and make even the tiniest mistake so she could get sent home. He did not believe that she belonged on the team. She was not a fighter, she barely did anything to help the human civilizations grow, she was either late or a no show to many meetings and at night she was nowhere to be found.

This hadn't gone unnoticed by anyone in the group and many had become concerned for her. Ajak, however, allowed Nyx her freedom of space and didn't question her whereabouts as long as Nyx showed up for the important meetings, helped Sersi at least twice a week and never interfered with deviant fighting.

The price of following Ajak's rules allowed Nyx to be free from her rein and also allowed her space to grow as an individual, but there was a fine line between the peacefulness of solitude and the loneliness of isolation.

In the beginning, it felt like paradise having infinite time on her hands. She took advantage of every moment to explore her powers and learn how to control them. Most nights, she would train with Thena who'd helped her increase her fighting skill as well as hand to hand combat to prepare her for anything. Then every other night, they'd put her skill to the test against a deviant. Overtime, she grew stronger and more confident within herself and her ability, feeling untouchable.

More often than not, she found herself struggling to keep her secret from the group. There were many times when they would joke about her and belittle her abilities, often making her feel inferior to them. But if only they knew, she constantly thought. The few times she sat and had dinner with the team, they often told stories reminiscing about their battles. Sprite would depict their storytelling with her illusions and they all bonded with each other like a family—all except for Nyx.
