Almost every story, no matter the genre, or style will include a fight, or argument. However, when they are written incorrectly, they can be jumbled and confusing. This is how I have learned to develop fights and arguments between my characters. As a side note, as many characters can be added to a fight as you can keep in line with the story, however I only added space for two people as that is most often the case in fights, but like I said feel free to add as many as you can keep track of :)
What is your setting :
Are there any onlookers :
Does anyone try to flee : yes/no
Why or Why not?
Was the fight planned?
-------------------------
Character 1 :
Role in the fight : instigator / antagonist / voice of reason / __________
Why are they involved or What is at steak for them in this fight :
What do they aim to accomplish :
Do they fight fair : yes/no
Did they feel that the fight was necessary to solve the fight : yes / no
Why or Why not?
-------------------------
Character 2 :
Role in the fight : instigator / antagonist / voice of reason / __________
Why are they involved or What is at steak for them in this fight :
What do they aim to accomplish :
Do they fight fair : yes/no
Did they feel that the fight was necessary to solve the fight : yes / no
Why or Why not?
-------------------------
How or why does the fight end :
Is there a clear winner :
What does the winner feel :
What does the loser feel :
Did this fight end the conflict, or make it worse :
-------------------------
Obviously, fights aren't always just verbal. So how do you make a verbal fight physical?
Character 1 :
Weapons :
Is the other character made aware of the weapon?
Does the of weapon influence the fight or cause the other character to be defensive : yes / no
If yes, how?
-------------------------
Character 2 :
Weapons :
Is the other character made aware of the weapon?
Does the of weapon influence the fight or cause the other character to be defensive : yes / no
If yes, how?
-------------------------
Was the fight a rite of passage, or ritual such as hazing?
Did the setting play a role in the outcome of the fight?
Was anyone killed or injured?
Are they evenly armed?
Are the evenly matched in strength?
Are they evenly matched in skill?
Do any other factors play a role in the outcome of this fight?
