Their suspect was a Lycan.

Neal could smell it as soon as he entered the building. He was supposed to meet their suspect, a small bald man who reminded him somehow of Mozzie, for their latest case involving a stolen Rembrandt and an antique clock.

The bald man, Erick Mendel, was looking for a fence and lucky for him, Steve Tabernacle was the right guy for that.

But the problem was that they hadn't known he was Lycan. And this meant that he would see right through Neal.

"You are not who you say you are." Mendel growled. His green eyes flashed a dark amber and Neal saw how claws grew out of his fingers. "You reek of Feds."

Neal let his face remain passive. He could still play the game.

"The feds suspected me of something I was not involved in." He said, keeping his tone light and calm, knowing Mendel could pick up his heartbeat. He'd know when Neal was lying. "They kept me in their offices all night."

This was true, Peter hadn't let him go home until midnight.

"Why should I trust you're not working for them?"

"We both know what the Feds would do with someone like me, Mendel. Someone like us would not survive the clutches of the men." He hoped he had read the man right as he spun one of Mozzie's conspiracies.

Mendel's claws disappeared. "You are not lying." He stated. "I do not trust you, but I am willing to make this work."

Neal nodded, letting a grin slip through. "Great. I will take care of everything. The only thing you need to do is bring the merchandise to the meeting place."

"I shall know if you are playing me, boy." Mendel let a growl into his words.

Neal had to resist the urge to growl back. He allowed Mendel to keep the control, let him think he was in charge.

"I will call you when everything is ready." Neal said.

Mendel gave a curt nod before he left the building.

Neal left after him, using a different exit. He spotted the tail seconds after he left the building but he didn't let it show.

He walked three blocks in the opposite direction of where he knew Peter was watching in the van and entered a coffeeshop. He noted that his tail entered after him and one sniff of the air told him they were human.

Good.

Neal slipped out through the back door, making sure his tail hadn't seen him.

Then he doubled back towards the van. Once he was certain that he hadn't been followed and that Mendel was gone, he knocked on the door.

"What was that?" Peter all but barked as soon as he entered the van.

Neal raised his eyebrow, eying Jones and Diana. He knew he could tell them the truth but he hesitated.

"Mendel is a Lycan." He said. "I convinced him that I'm trustworthy but he's definitely paranoid."

"He reminds me of the little guy." Jones shuddered.

"Think you can keep him convinced?" Peter asked.

"Shouldn't be a problem." Neal nodded.

"Good." Peter nodded. "Go home, we'll arrange everything for tomorrow evening."

Neal blinked and caught Diana's eye. No doubt was she thinking the same thing.

"Boss, tomorrow's a full moon." She pointed out.
