The rest of the journey in this dungeon only took as deeper and deeper. There were no more riddles and there were no more monsters. It was very concerning as we both thought something was supposed to happen, but nothing did.
Soon though, we came across an odd sight. There was some kind of creature laying on the ground. It had white fur and it looked it was sleeping. When we got close, it suddenly woke up and tried to run from us, but it was chained to the ground. It was a fox with white fur. A pretty big fox too.
"Kurtis, what's that symbol on that thing's head?" The fox's head had red lines drawn around its eyes and it had a red circle with a dot on top of it.
"That looks like a daemon mark, but I've never seen one like that before. This daemon isn't from here." Kurtis said, drawing his sword. "This must be the monster that everyone was talking about." As Kurtis took a step towards this daemon, it started to run away, only held down by the chains it was attached to. It let out what sounded like an alarmed cry, although I've never heard a fox before, so I don't know what they sound like.
After watching the daemon struggle, Kurtis put his sword away and stepped back from it. "Come on, Pixie, let's go."
"Wha-You're just going to leave that thing alive?"
"It poses no threat."
"It's a fox, and it's a daemon. It could be trying to trick you!"
"Pixie, look at its legs. Look at its neck. It's chafing its own skin just to get away from me. It's not dangerous, it's just scared."
"What could scare a daemon?"
"I don't know, and I don't care; Excalibur is what I'm after."
Kurtis left the room first. The daemon was staring at him until he was out of sight. Then it looked at me. I was afraid that it would try to pull some kind of trick, so I left quickly.
After walking down another long stairwell, we entered a large room. Torches were lit all around, lighting it very well. There was a large pool of water in the middle of the room, and in the middle of the large pool of water, was a small piece of land that had a sword embedded in it. That must've been Excalibur! It was real, and we had found it! Kurtis and I were jubilant, but there was still one last obstacle, the water.
"This must be the lake that the dungeon was built over." Kurtis noted. He looked at the water for a moment. "Pixie, can you see anything in the water?"
I looked at the surface of the water. The torches had lit the room so well, that the surface reflected perfectly; it was impossible to see under it unless you jumped in. Kurtis had a remedy for this. Conjuring up a whole host of swords, he used them to reflect the torches' light towards the middle of the room. Then, he used another sword to channel that light towards the water, turning it into a large beam of light that we could use to see. The water was beautifully clean and blue and there didn't appear to be anything-
"Pixie, did you see that?" Kurtis asked me suddenly.
"Huh? See what?"
"There was something in the water..." Kurtis moved the light rapidly through the water, revealing mostly nothing. Then I saw what he saw; a large tail moving away from the light. Multiple large tails. There was some kind of giant fish in the water; I bet that if anyone tried to swim to Excalibur, they'd be eaten by these fish.
"Damn. How are we going to get across?" I asked.
"The only way I can; by swimming." Kurtis said. He didn't sound like he liked this choice either.
"Are you mad? Those fish will eat you if you go in the water!"
"They don't like the light though." Kurtis moved all of his swords so that the propped up against the torches. They still reflected the light, but the single sword hanging in the middle of the room stayed floating. "Pixie, I can't swim and focus on holding up a sword at the same time; you're going to hold that sword up and reflect the light towards me." Kurtis took off his gear and prepared to jump in the water. I had made my way to the sword hanging in the middle of the room and grabbed the handle.
