Chapter 4

~Flashback~

Earth is the only child of Mr & Mrs Pirapat. His parents met during their college years and instantly fell in love. Even after finding out Earth's father's real identity, his mother who was a orphan chose to marry him.

Earth's mother was smart and brave . During that time, there was not that many women who would directly get involved in mafia world. Eventhough Earth's mother was new to this, she learned everything faster and began helping his father on many missions. It did not take much time for her to gain recognition and respect in the gang.

She had a best friend since her childhood who is also another orphan, Fern . They were like sisters and was always together since their childhood. After earth was born, she was like a second mother to him.

It was during the time, Earth was born, a gang war broke out. Pirapat's gang was on the winning side, but the enemy gang chose more brutal ways to win which soon included their plan to kidnap baby earth.

One night, they infilterated the mansion, when Pirapat was away. Earth's mother hid herself and baby earth inside a secret room within the bedroom.
Before hiding, she informed her friend to tell this to her husband.

When Fern came with help, the enemies had already entered the secret room. Pirapat's gang killed all the enemies within and found Earth's mother lying down the floor, with severe injuries all over her body. They also found Earth who was safely kept inside another secret vault which was smaller in size,within the room.

Pirapat hurriedly brought his wife to the hospital, but it was already too late.

She died.

Pirapat in his fury commanded his entire gang to destroy his enemies. His already enraged gang,  wholeheartedly obeyed his order.

It was a massacre.

Seeing how dangerous the gang under the Pirapat could be, the remaining enemies stopped resisting and fled.

Since then, Fern took care of earth like her own son. Seeing how she was fulfilling the duties in behalf of earth's mother, after a year, Pirapat decided to marry Fern. Those who loved Earth's mother were not happy with this, but did not openly admitted it. The discontented among them began to make rumours of her, the worst one being the possibility of Fern being the actual reason behind Earth's mother's death. Because the only person who knew about the secret room, besides Pirapat and his late wife, was Fern.

After First was born, Fern began to have more control on the mansion and soon started to have command over others.
She even sometimes dressed as Earth's mom and had her same mannerisms as though to strengthen her dominance.

Even if Earth was young, he was able to understand the rumours. He realised Fern was not his real mother through these rumours and also about his real mother.He tried to ignore the rumours at first, but soon began to watch Fern's actions with suspicion.
Even when Fern disciplined him, young earth thought she was doing this out of hatred. His anger and suspicion for his step mother increased within him as day went by. It did not took much time for them to have arguments.

Earth had pent up anger within him and Fern thought it was because of his age.
Both of them never actually tried to sought out the real problem, which further deepened the discord. Pirapat knew about this, but saw it as something normal that could happen between a parent and child.

First never interfered when Fern and Earth had disagreements. He genuinely thought that Fern actually had done something wrong for Earth to act in this way. But it soon changed, when First also came to know about Earth's real mother.

That day, Earth and Fern were arguing as usual.  For the first time, First interfered them and argued with Earth. They were near the stairs and at the peak of the argument,  mistaking Earth was going to hurt his mother, First defended her by pushing away Earth. Earth who was at the edge of the stairs, lose his balance and fell all the way down the stairs.

That was when Pirapat entered the hall to witness his unconscious son on the floor and the shocked faces of his wife and other son at the upstairs.

Earth was taken to the hospital quickly. His injuries were not life threatening but Pirapat insisted on his rest to the doctors.He was discharged after two weeks.

Entering the mansion, he realised why  his father had delayed his discharge.

First was sent abroad.

Pirapat said it was to avoid any future conflicts. Earth felt guilty because he knew it was not First's fault. He was just defending his mother. But he remained silent on the matter. He found that it was the only way against his Step mother.

Fern was angry at what happened to her son, but did not show it. She tried to make peace with Earth, which he ignored.

After sometime, even Pirapat could not tolerate how earth is unjustly behaving to Fern. The father and son also had arguments on the same. When it got worse, Earth decided to move out . He had his mom's mansion which was actually a gift of his father to his mother. His mother put it under Earth's name.
So now earth is living alone with a servant and the driver in his new mansion. He still helps the gang on its issues without his father's order.
He still does his duties as a son.

It has been 5 years.
He had not talked with First since then.

Now seeing first smiling before him without any hatred, makes Earth feel somewhat guity.

"Hi, brother"  First said raising a glass of wine.

Earth smiled back and sat beside him..he poured himself a glass of wine.

"So...." earth tried to start a conversation "... How are you doing? "

"I am doing well" First replied with a smile.

Earth nodded and took his glass to take a sip.

First continued, "...I should be doing well, right?......Living alone in a faraway place from home with no one caring for me...Unlike for someone...."

Earth stopped himself in half way from sipping the wine. He turned to look First.

The person who was full of smile before, now had a glimpse of rage in his eyes.

"Earth.... First...."

They broke their eye contact and looked at the direction of voice. It was their father  gesturing them to come and meet the guests.

They rose up from their seats and went to greet the guests, together, hiding behind their smiles.
