Screams echo all around meThe cries of children as they desperately call for their parents, the audible anguish bouncing around the rubble. This place is void of help - police officers, paramedics and fire fighters nowhere to be seen, despite this being a place where we finally need them.

I crawl forward through the glass and stones. I feel the blood drying onto my face from the heat of the fires desperately grasping onto any fuel. I don't know what exactly happened in this short amount of time, I was with my friends working on a school project in a small coffee shop. The hot chocolate being served to us was practically beginning to be devoured but when I leaned towards it to take it, it burned me. Of course, it wasn't the servers fault - her arm had been blown straight off by an impossible blast. Then chaos took over. The glass windows shattered, the walls splintering and caving at the pressure it should never withstand. I went to aid the server, despite knowing that she was bleeding out and nothing could help her - I tried to grab her and make her death more comfortable but the fire consumed her before her heart stopped.

Her death would forever torment my mind,  but I'm sure my forever is about to end. She doesn't deserve this, she needs to be remembered but her death will die with me.

The rest of the coffee shop died too - my friends gone before I could blink. I cried for them, but I knew they felt no pain because I felt nothing when the grenade hit us. The pain wouldn't register with my conscious state so it wouldn't have affected their quick deaths. I didn't hear them die. I didn't watch them writhe around on the floor in agony as I could do nothing but burn myself further. That led to more death.

After the grenade, I knew I wouldn't live long - my sight faded in one eye and my movement too sluggish. But I heard the squeal and I recognised it - the woman who works at the charity shop across the road. I heard that squeal once before when her father came round and beat her to her first baby's miscarriage - the townspeople nearly killed him if it wasn't for the police. He deserved it though.
I ran towards her, no thought allowed it but I did. She couldn't fall to the same fate as that waitress. I stumbled down the road, climbing over cars to reach her - she was trapped beneath her shop, it caved upon her. I tried to lift it but my burnt hand prevented me from grabbing it, I could only free half her torso. I cried so hard as I knew I couldn't save her, but she told me to save her customer, pointing a limp broke arm in the direction of the pregnant woman.
