october 13. just another normal day for me at my new job as a barista at the roasted bean cafe. people weaved in and out throughout the day, ordering the same thing over and over.

'can i have a pumpkin spice latte please?' was all i heard ever since i started working here, and i was the one that had to make all of them. what a nice life i had, right?

my lunch break came around slower than it needed to. as soon as the clock hit 12:15, i hung up my apron and dashed to the break room without hesitation. i always left my phone on charge when i worked, and i found it in its usual spot beside the vending machine. as always, i had a text from my sister, madalyn, asking how work was going.
