I'm awoken from my sleep by a knock on the door. I groan loudly and roll over, pulling the covers over my head.
The knock comes again. I sigh and lay for a few more seconds before yelling, "coming" and sliding off the bed, one body part at a time; first my arm, then a leg, and so on until I was standing beside my bed, rubbing my eyes sleepily.
I trudge downstairs and just before I get to the door there's another knock.
"I SAID I'M COM--" I yank open the door and see Sasha standing there.
"Cranky, much?" she smirks, pushing past me into the room. What's with people doing that lately? I close the door and turn around.
"What do you want?" I groan. "I was sleeping."
She looks me up and down. "Obviously." she says. I self-consciously run a hand through my hair. She smirks and plops down on the couch. She spends too much time around Jack.
"What did you come here for?" I ask again.
"You need to make friends." she says. "All you do is stay cooped up in this little apartment all day and the only people who see you are Debbie and Jack."
"You see me all the time." I say.
She snorts. "Yeah, when you're walking through the METF looking angry enough to tear someone's head off." she says. "What's up with you lately, anyway?" she asks, suddenly curious.
My kind flashes to Lena. I'm hopelessly in love with her, yet she is completely oblivious to it. How does she not get it? She leads me on without trying to, dropping false hints, then leaving me completely confused. What is she playing at?
I can't let Sasha know this, though.
"I don't know." I say lamely. She smirks and I realize what I just said. "Puberty, I guess."
Did I really just say that?
She bursts out laughing. "Well, your pubescent mood swings are pretty strong, then." she says. It took me a long time to figure out what 'puberty' was, and an even longer time to figure out that girls had it too. I actually share something with girls? I don't even like girls. Well, except for Debbie and Lena, but that's different.
"Anyway, Chloe, Austin, Jack and I are taking you into town a shopping trip." She says. I look down at myself.
"My clothes are fine." I say defensively.
She laughs. "No, honey. They're not." I blush at her calling me 'honey,' which only makes her laugh harder as she stand up, striding towards the door.
"Even after all this time in Mercywood, you're still such a Pangaean." She says.
"Well, if I'm so Pangaean, then why are you taking me out in public?" I ask. "I obviously don't like people."
"Exactly." she says. "You need to be comfortable around people."
I groan. "But I can't do that!" I say. "I spent so much time as a Pangaean."
She rolls her eyes. "Eight whole years!" She says sarcastically.
"Shut up." I say. She punches arm lightly.
"That's the spirit!" She says cheerfully. "Besides, if you can be this way after only eight years, you can adapt to people in a few weeks."
My heart drops. "We're gonna do this for a couple of weeks?!" I ask incredulously.
She nods like there's nothing wrong with it. I groan and grab some shoes off the shoe rack (it's not my fault, I'm naturally neat), reluctantly following her out the door.
This is gonna be a long few weeks.
