Before The Duty - Eula, Senior or Rival? Part 1

Noelle took a chance near Springvale, where she encounters Aether. They hung out for a bit, and became even closer as time passes.

One day, however Aether is about to leave the receptionist desk at the Mondstadt Adventurer's guild, after he got today's commissions.

"Honorary Knight?"

"Ah, Noelle."

"Are you alright? You look tired."

"It's nothing, really."

It's a lie. It's been a day after the events of Aether apprehending the member of the Lawrence clan trying to give intel to the Fatui. The Fatui put a heavy fight at the domain where Aether, and the Spindrift Knight Eula fought them.

Noelle looked worried, but then dismissed it as Aether told her.

"Shouldn't you be working at the HQ right now?"

"Ah, now that you mention it, yes. The floor's need sweeping!"

Noelle then ran off, leaving Aether free to do his commissions. Aether then looked at the commissions list that he is holding.

"Increasing Danger, A Small Step For Hilichurls, Full Speed Ahead... And... Oh no."

He slapped his forehead at the sight of the fourth commission.

"No! Not this commission..."

The fourth commission is in Dragonspine, dubbed "For The Harbingers!" In which he needed to, in quote, evict the Fatui Agents loitering around the area.

Aether continued to sulk, not noticing Noelle watching him from a corner. She felt bad abandoning her duty to sweep the floors of the HQ, but she also felt worse for Aether's behavior.

So she quietly followed him. She witnessed him destroying towers built by hilichurls, clearing an encampment of them, and running from point A to B. It was then when she sees that the path he is taking next leads to Dragonspine, which caused some bad memories to resurface within the Maid.

Little did they know, the both of them are watched from afar by a blue haired knight who happened to be patrolling the area for Fatui Agents.

Noelle continued to follow Aether until he reaches the north side of Dragonspine's border, where there is a small Fatui camp by the river.

Noelle watched from afar as Aether took out a Cryogunner Legionnaire, but was then cornered by a Geochanter and an Electrohammer Vanguard.

The Geochanter shoots a rock to the back of Aether's head right after he defeated the legionnaire, stunning him, before he gets hit by the hammer, sending him crashing to the tent.

Aether couldn't move. He is already too fatigued from the events yesterday, and today's commission. The vanguard raised his hammer, and struck down only for the sound of it hitting a blunt object is heard.

Aether unshielded his face to see that Noelle is standing in front of him, with her geo shield erected around tje both of them.

"What's this? Another ant ready to be squashed?" The vanguard asked.

"N-Noelle!"

"I was right after all, Honorary Knight! You were tired to even fight!"

"You need to leave, these people aren't pushovers!"

"I won't know unless I try!"

Noelle then pushed the vanguard back, surprising him with her brute force. She then saw the Geochanter about to shoot another geo projectile towards Aether, causing her to throw her claymore to the chanter, which landed on a rock right beside him, and scaring the living guts out of him because the rock was split in half.

The vanguard then see as her shield fades away and tried to strike her, only for her to sidestep the attack, and grabbed his hand before flipping his entire body over to the side.

Aether looked in amazement at Noelle's strength. However, as he already witnessed her destroying ores in one hit, and effortlessly slaying a lawachurl, he is not surprised but still amazed.

"Y-You brat!"

The vanguard cursed, before getting up as Noelle dashed to her claymore and took it off the split rock. The Geochanter had tried prying it off himself but it was too heavy for him to do so. He then scrambled over to the ground as he sees Noelle taking the claymore out using only one hand.

The vanguard behind Noelle activates his electro shield, which she noticed. She tried to break through, but the shield is too tough for her.

Soon Noelle finds herself being evenly matched with the vanguard, until the blue haired knight from before showed up.

"I couldn't believe you decided to do commissions with a fatigued body, Traveller."

"E...Eula!?"

Eula gives Aether a small smile, before looking at the battle in front of her. Eula quickly summoned her claymore as she ran towards the Geochanter, and did an Icetide Vortex slash, which instantly defeated the already traumatized Geochanter.

She then turned her gaze to Noelle fighting the Electrohammer Vanguard. Noelle was knocked a few feet away by a hammer swing after her shield faded, luckily she landed on her feet, and knelt down on the ground, using her claymore as support.

Then a blue flash rushed pass Noelle, which is Eula, unleashing a second Icetide Vortex to the Electrohammer Vanguard, superconducting his shield before doing another slash which is her 'Glacial Illumination' ultimate attack. A lightfall sword appears behind her, as she did one final slash of Icetide Vortex, this time unleashing two grimheart swords that caused extra damage to the shield, finally getting rid of it. The lightfall sword grows bigger as Eula landed a few quick slashes, and after one vertical slash, the sword falls down, and sends the vanguard flying to a rock, knocking him out for the capture. A cryo sigil appeared behind him, before fading away shortly afterwards.

"You are... The Spindrift Knight, Lady Eula!" Noelle bowed before Eula, who looked at her with surprise.

She then turned her gaze to Aether and looked back at Noelle.

"Maid... What's your name?"

"I... I am Noelle, maid of the Knights of Favonius."

"You failed to protect him... And for that you must pay."

"H-Huh...?" Noelle tilted her head in confusion, as Eula then went towards Aether to help him get up.

The both of them then took him back to Mondstadt for medical attention. The defeated Fatui Agents back at Dragonspine were rounded up by several knights that are also there with Eula.

Aether was brought to rest in one of the HQ's quarters. Noelle, remembering her duty, begins to sweep the floors until she bumped into Eula again.

"Ah, Lady Eula? How may I be of service as of now?"

She looked at Eula worriedly, as the latter gave her a disappointed expression.

"I will give you one order, as your senior. Stay away from the Honorary Knight."
