'Twas the day before Christmas.

Lola: Charlie, I want foxes.

Charlie: But you have a fox.

Lola: But my fox wants a fox. What do you want from Father Christmas?

Charlie thought.

Charlie: I want... I want... (sighs) I wish I knew! We have so many toys already. What do I need?

Lola and Charlie went to their room to look in their toy box.

Lola: Do you need dinosaurs?

Charlie: No, I got them already.

Lola: Cars?

But Charlie already had those in his toy box, too.

Charlie: Right here.

Lola: Something for Pedro!

Charlie: I like Pedro the stuffed pirate just the way he is.

Lola: What?

Charlie: I said "I like Pedro the stuffed pirate just the way he is."

He gazed lovingly over at his bed, where his stuffed pirate Pedro always slept. And Pedro was... not there

Charlie: (gasps) WHERE'S PEDRO?

Charlie rushed downstairs. His mum was on the phone. But all Charlie could think about was Pedro.

Mum (on the phone): Leave it to me, Mr. Johnson. It will be the best Christmas party ever.

Charlie: Mum, have you seen Pedro?

Mum: No.

Charlie and Lola's dad was also missing something.

Dad: Anyone seen my other snowflake sock?

Charlie: No. Have you seen Pedro?

But he had not.

Dad: Um, not recently.

Charlie: (sighs)

Lola: Found Pedro yet?

Charlie: Not yet, Lola.

Lola: Oh.

Charlie: What's wrong?

Lola: All my old toys are broken or parts are missing.

Charlie: Maybe Father Christmas will bring you a new doll.

Lola: Hey, maybe he could bring you a new Pedro.

Charlie: I want old Pedro, Lola.

Lola: But new is better than old.

Charlie didn't agree.

Charlie: Granny and Grandpa have given me Pedro when I was little. I've had him my whole life.

Lola: Don't worry Charlie. I'll help you look for him.

Charlie: Thanks, Lola.

They looked in the cupboard.

Lola: Pedro, are you in here?

Charlie: No.

No Pedro.

They looked behind the television. No Pedro.

Charlie and Lola: (sighs)

They looked under the sofa cushions. Still no Pedro.

They looked in the bathtub.

Lola: Pedro.

Still no sign of Pedro.

They even looked under the fridge.
