Jude Heartfilia was an unusually rare kind of dishonest man, he was the kind of man that would go to the extremes concerning his family, even if that means being buried in grief when the mistress of the house died.
As such, the young child that was left behind by Layla Heartfilia had grown up under a depressed father who seems to have never recovered from his mourning.
Lucy Hearfilia, the young miss of the house. Though the family provided funds so that the child could grow, being ignored by her father was still counted as neglect.
Normally, children that grew up in those conditions often developed a sense of inferiority due to how their own parents treated them. Some become narcissists or overly arrogant children since they had now guidance from their parents.
Thankfully, in the original, Lucy was surrounded by loving employees or else she would have grown to be very different.
But the same wouldn't be said to the current Lucy in this timeline, or world, parallel world, or whatever it could be described as.
The young girl never cried, never complained... and never smiled.
Starting from when she was an infant, Lucy had a stoic expression, a never changing emotion on the child's face. This greatly concerned the employees that had treated the Heartfilia family close to their hearts.
Other than when Lucy was asking for food when she was hungry, the child never made any other sound. It was to the point that the employees wanted to hear the child cry even once.
Spetto, former maid of Layla, and was assigned as Lucy's nanny had been riddled with nothing but concern on how the young miss grew up.
The same applied to all the employees. They adored the former mistress, and sworn at her grave to care for the child that was left behind, and yet they didn't know what to do.
At age one, as soon as the young Lucy could walk small steps and speak out slightly understandable words did they manage to let out sighs of relief.
Bero walked the hallways of the huge house, making his way back to his room when he had heard the a familiar clink behind him.
Seeing as there was no one behind him, he looked down and saw the young Lucy who had just clutched at his robes.
He was taken aback at the rare expression on the child's face. Even though it still looked devoid of any emotion, being around the stoic miss made them sensitive to changes in Lucy's change in expressions.
And he saw, that child who always looked bored with anything, with wide eyes staring at him. It was evidently an emotion showing excitement.
"Yes, young Lucy?" Bero asked in caution, somehow feeling anxious that Lucy would go back to her usual stoic face if he says the wrong thing.
"Dis... Keys, mom lev behin... Use, I wan." The lisps didn't even bother Bero as he was more caught off guard at the thought that the young miss was interested in doing something. Bero could see Lucy's hands holding out a gold key, but the rarity of the celestial spirit key wasn't that impressive compared to the current Lucy who had showed interest in magic.
"Y-Yes... Y-Yes, of course!" Bero then flinched as he might have come out a little too excited and cleared his throat to calm his excited outburst. His next words were calm unlike his earlier exclamation.
"If you would allow me, I can teach the young miss some magic." Bero clasped Lucy's hands together. He could already imagine spending time with the young miss. Teaching her spells, sigils, magic circles.
