I hop out of the car as soon as it stops in front of my apartment building. I don't hesitate to walk to the door, not really paying attention to if she's following or not- but I feel her strong presence. Her aura is so dominating that it makes me tense.
I stop at my door and pull out my keys, pushing the door open and entering the apartment- it smells like vanilla and cinnamon inside.
"Wow, a cute little place you got here," Mel calls out, stepping inside. She takes her shoes off and places them on the rack by the door. I slide my shoes off as well and sit them on the rack, before walking over to my couch and plopping down on it, grabbing my tv remote. Hopefully, I can hint to her that I don't really want her to stay but, she doesn't seem like the type to listen to social queues.
"Thank you." I say softly, turning the tv on and hoping to find a movie, "What are you about to do?" I scroll through the streaming catalogs, going into horror, drama, and romance. Nothing sticks out but, I'm not really focused on anything I'm scrolling by.
"Nothing, just chill here with you a bit," Mel says, plopping down right beside me, her long, muscular arms on the back of the chair, right by my shoulder. I don't ever remember saying she could stay but, I guess for a few minutes it wouldn't be so bad. I look over at her- She's staring at her phone, an intense expression on her face. She feels my gaze on her and turns her head, giving me a smile.
"What?"
"You look worried." I say softly, "You need to relax."
"I am relaxed."
I don't question her further, I just stand from my chair and head to the bathroom, "I'm going to take a shower really quickly."
"Can I join you?" She hisses. It feels like her lips are right beside my neck. I turn around, a bit startled; she hasn't left her spot. She snickers and I head into my bathroom and run the shower water.
Halfway into my shower, I feel another presence in my house; I close my eyes and focus- realizing the voices are coming from my bedroom. Mel and another girl.
"Your majesty, we have to get you home, now." The other girl whispers, "You are losing a lot of blood. You're barely-"
"Shh...My friend might hear you."
Mel sounds intoxicated; her words are slurred and she's strangely loud. I walk into the room, my towel wrapped around my body and I see another girl. Dark, onyx eyes and long black hair. she has these huge wings on her back and horns sticking out of her head. Her large wings cover and hide Mel but, I see her eyes are just as evil-looking as the other girl's. I stumble back, just staring at her- my body is hot and cold all at once, and my blood feels like it's flowing backward.
"Saph, calm down. We're not going to hurt you."
"I might hurt you." The other girl says, her voice deep and guttural, she lets out a wicked laugh and then Mel coughs; her body jerks and she coughs up a bit of blood. Despite her looking like that, I still see the Mel I came home with. I grab my first aid kit and rush over to her. The other girl glares at me and pushes her wing in my face as if she is trying to block me.
Mel chuckles and stares at us, "You really think a mere mortal would hurt us? Move, Sael."
Sael never takes her eyes off of me but, she gets up, slowly standing by my closet door. Her wings retract and she crosses her arms. Her eyes look human. I wonder how many people among me are really demonic like her and Mel... I slowly sit on the bed and pull out all of my medicines and bandages.
