Dylan’s POV:
School finally ended, but before I could relax, my phone pinged. Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I check my messages only to see it from Brian. Growling, I look at what he wants.
‘Meet me at the alley so we can finish what we started.’ I let out a frustrated sigh before making my way to the alley.
The alley is the place me and Brian first met. As you can tell, we didn’t hit it off very well… I hate him because he killed my sister, my mother and an innocent woman right in front of me. My dad and I went into a long depression. They were our everything.
Arriving at the alley, I notice Brian dressed in dark clothes with one leg propped up against the wall wearing that stupid smirk with his arms crossed. Noticing me as well, he stands up straight and strolls towards me.
“I see you got my message,” Brian grins.
“Of course I did. Now when can my fist meet your face,” I ask. Brian growls at me before extending his arm to punch me. Already seeing his attack, I duck before swinging my fist at his stomach. He crouches over in pain. I bring my knee up and knee his jaw. Hearing a satisfying crack and groan, I chuckle darkly before bending down and whispering in his ear,
“You were no match for me. Find me when you are stronger.” And with that, I bring one final punch to his face before he falls unconscious. Strolling out of the alley, I keep my head held high and don’t glance back.
Stepping inside my house, Dad greats me.
“Hey son! How was school today?”
“The usual…” I grumble back. Ever since Mum and Chloe died, Dad and I became distant. He realised his mistake too late and is now trying to fix our bond. His efforts make me happy.
Dad lets out a throaty chuckle. I smile at him and make my way to my bedroom to complete today’s homework.
Flopping down on my bed, Avery’s face wanders into my mind. Thinking about her brought a smile to my face. I wish she wasn’t bullied at school, but if I stand up for her people will notice my secret.
Wait. Why am I thinking about her?
“Dylan! Dinner’s ready!” Dad yells. I check the time to see that I spent 40 minutes thinking about her. Shaking my head to get her face out of my mind, I hop down the stairs, eager for my dinner. Reaching the dinner table, the smell of cup noodles wafts into my nose. You see, Dad and I can’t cook to save our lives. Once I burnt a carrot. Yeah I suck that bad. We begin eating in peace until Dad clears his throat.
“Son. I have your first mission. This will determine your status as a FBI agent and will be your test. If it gets too dangerous, don’t hesitate to come to me for help and handing the mission to me. Good luck son.” My jaws drops and my eyes widen.
“SAY WHAT?!?! WOOHOO FIRST MISSION HERE I COME!!” I get up and dance around the dinner table while Dad just chuckles at me. Dad hands me a file and explains to me that the mission brief will be in the file and any clues or whatnot will be mailed to our house. Nodding my head rapidly, I jump up from the table and grab the mission brief. Leaping up the stairs to my room, I take a breath before slowly opening the file.
