The filthy, crumbling walls around me, only made me want to dress more quickly into the uniform I was given to wear.
I inhaled a sharp breath, stepping out from the cubicle I was occupying. Another girl, with long, fire-red hair, rushed into the now vacant block.
There were large, oval shaped mirrors hanging from the concreted walls, above the sinks. I stared into one, noticing my uniform properly for the first time.
This uniform was similar to the War Squad's outfit.A skin-tight, black, top stretched over my slim figure. The long sleeves, protecting down to my fingers, where the clothing looped around my thumb.
Long, black, pants were fastened with a leather belt that hung at my waist. My fingers glazed over an empty holster fitted into the belt.
Will we be using guns?
A sour taste formed in my mouth at an image of me shooting with a large gun in my hand, popped into my mind.A loud whistle rang throughout the room. Immediately, girls started rushing back into the corridor, along with the boys. Caden held up his thumb and pointer finger in a whistle stance. He huffed in satisfaction at everyone running frantic to hurry here.
Once we were all settled down, Caden waited another minute for complete silence.
My head hung low. Just for a second, I looked up to a random place in the room, and locked eyes with Damon. He had already been looking at me. But I wondered, for how long? After a second, butterflies formed in the pit of my stomach, and I was forced to look away. My eyes searched the floor unable to calm. I looked up again. There he was, staring at me still, with an interested look in his green eyes.
My confused feelings stopped when Caden begun to speak again.
"Follow me. Do not stray from the group."Like obedient sheep, we followed the wolf into the trap.
The food room, or the 'Den' ,as the officials now called it, was awaiting our arrival.
Knowing better, we waited for Caden to give us permission to enter."Remember those rules I read out. Gaurds are patrolling around this room, if you are caught breaking these rules, await the consequences."
He swept out a muscular arm to us, letting us advance into the room.
I joined a que of people, waiting in line for dinner. I took a tray and a plate, holding it at my side. The foods smell okay, not great but definitely better then what we have to cook at home.A young woman in her late twenties, reached over the counter and served me a scoop of steamy mash patato. I gave her an appreciative smile. I guessed their was a certain amount they were allowed to give us. She nodded her head slightly, Dark hair in a bun bobbing up and down.
I moved along the counter, earning another serving of raw vegetables. When reaching the end of the line I took a glass of water that was placed among others on a bench.
My eyes scanned over the occupied tables, annoyed at how quickly they had been taken. I spotted a spare seat at a table.
The people at the table seemed young and friendly. A girl with long, blonde hair and big brown eyes sat at the far end of the table next to another girl and two boys. The other girl seemed the complete opposite of this one. She had dark auburn hair, crystal blue eyes and a pretty smile. The boys looked grown up for their age of 16. One was brown- haired, and had golden eyes, and the other black hair and blue eyes. Each of them looking sharp in their uniforms.
My eyes landed on the fifth person sitting at the table. Damon.
Clearing my throat I slid my tray down across from Damon.
"Would you mind if I sit here?" I asked politely, not wanting to intrude.I felt their eyes on me, their quiet conversation stopping. The girl with blonde hair answered first.
"Of course, go ahead." Her smile was sweet and understanding.
The others all smiled just as kindly and whispered hellos. I felt Damon's stare intensify."Im violet." The girl with dark hair and blue eyes introduced herself.
"Im Becca." The girl with blonde hair said.
She bit her lip smiling, "And he is Jace," she smiled towards the boy with black hair and blue eyes, "And he is Peeta."
Peeta, the boy with brown hair and golden eyes winked at me in greetings.
"I'm Aria." I finally announced. They smiled and said, 'nice to meet you Aria.'
Damon looked up at the group, flashing a handsome smile.
"And I'm Damon." The group stared at him, and I wondered why looking at a person was so interesting.
I giggled silently as a voice in my mind whispered, "Says the girl who can't stop gawking at him!"A few moments passed, and i had taken a mouthful of the patato, deciding to leave the raw vegetables untouched.
I hadn't really taken in the other people here yet. None seemed to know what lay ahead. Thats why they were all so open- minded.
As I noticed more of their personalitues, I my mind wondered. What were there abilities?
Then a thought struck me, nearly choking on my breath.
What was my ability?
I guess I hadn't really had time to think about that. I know that I had made the guy in my test simulation, die. I know that I had somehow made that knife move, but was that it? I still hadn't quite figured out my main ability.
To be honest, I don't think anyone has.I woke from my daze, looking innocently at Damon. I thought about the last thing he had said to me.
'When they're finished with us.'
Had he meant that? Or was he just scared?Once again, Caden addressed the people arrogantly, as if he owned the world. Although it was true that he owned us- at least until we were let go from this place.
"In a few minutes, I will have my gaurds escort you all back to your cells for a good night's sleep." He looked around the room, the cocky smile back on his lips.
"Your Training begins tomorrow."
