chapter 3;;
"a new start."

YOU STEPPED INTO THE CARRIAGE, but hesitated, looking back to what had been your everyday. the walls of the academia lingered in the distance, they appeared dark in the dim lighting of the two lanterns that hung at each side of the carriage. taking a deep breath you bid a silent farewell to what had been your home for the past few years. turning around, your eyes met with those of the fatui harbinger, who was already seated.
the man who had introduced himself to you as pierro, director of the fatui harbingers, had made it clear to you that you had to travel as soon as possible back to shnezhnaya, as he was already far behind schedule. you hadn't uttered any objections, the sooner you left the better.
pierro's eyes peered coldly through his half covering mask, "go on, take a seat.", he urged you. reluctantly you seated yourself across of him.
the carriage was unlit inside, making it hard to see with the absence of light both inside and outside of the single window which stretched out on the wall. you found yourself staring at pierro's eyes. they blazed with danger and wisdom, yet they were as unforgiving as ice cold nights. he met your eyes. you quickly averted yours off of him, suddenly finding much interest in the landscape outside the window.

the deafening silence was replaced by the voice of a fatui at the door of the carriage,
"my lord, we are ready for departure when thee are.", he bowed to the harbinger seated in front of you, "if our calculations are deemed correctly, we will be arriving at the tsaritsa's palace in approximately 3 hours.".
the fatui's eyes traveled to you for a split second before he continued: "my lord, do you wish for us to send a message to her majesty about your arrival?"
a short silence followed before pierro answered, "that won't be needed, thank you.", he turned to you, "we shall be leaving now, wouldn't want to keep the others waiting, would we?"
the fatui man bowed once again, "as you wish, my lord.", and proceeded to disappear out of the door.
soon after, you heard the clicking of horseshoes on the pavement below, and the carriage started moving.
you sighed as you looked out of the window. finally you could leave the past behind. with a bit of luck, maybe you could start a new life.
